View Full Version : I saw the Biggest wheels & tires ever

It was on a 3500DRW about 03 Chevy. This thing was HUGE and pulling a gooseneck inclosed trailer with a picture of a sprint car on the back. The wheels were Big Rig style like you see on a 18wheeler. But BIG, like bigger than a 24" wheel and the tires were Big Rig style tires too. The 3500 body looked very small ontop of these wheels and tires...I have been trying to find a pic on the internet of something similar but no luck yet...anyway the biggest 3500 I have seen and still used for towrig duties waytogo :pimp:

A friend of mine owns a spray in bedliner/accessory business where I live and has an '03 F350 w/6.0 Powerstroke and the Torqshift auto with 11 or 13 inches of lift and 22.5 Alcoas form a big rig and BFG tires like the wide ones from cement truck. the tires are rated for 100k miles I think. A few weeks ago we pulled a trailer with 4 quads on it and a crotch rocket in the bed to the local drag strip. He deciede after a while to race it and consistently ran 10.23's in the 1/8th mile with it till the intercooler line popped off. It was fun while it lasted waytogo .
On a side note, there was a f/s Chevy bodied drag truck there with a twin turbo cummins in it that was running 5.50's in the 1/8th. It was fast to say the least. The guys said that they were just there playing with it :stir: .

They were probably 24.5" standards. Basically the biggest tires and wheels trucks use. They aren't very popular anymore, since they are so tall.

I wouldn't run anything shorter on a dump truck.

I wouldn't run anything shorter on a dump truck. Fine. Put them on a dump truck. No one runs them on anything else, especially freight.

I think any tire/wheel smaller than a lo-pro 24.5 looks fugly on a Pete 378 or 379. The front fenders are made to follow the outside edge of a 11Rx24.5 and lo-pro 22.5s or smaller just looks funny on them.
If no one runs them any more why does every truck tire store carry them? Hell most truck tire store still carry 10.00x20s and 10.00x22 tube tires.
You see the trucking world thru your daddy's company and think you know all about it. Although I run all my trucks these days hauling construction material, I keep my hand in all parts of it, as you never know when that will dry up.

You aren't even worth arguing with.... think of what ever you'd like of me. I feel fortunate that I was able to grow up around a family business, and don't take it for granted since I know so many people struggling through school and part time jobs. I deal with people like you every once and a while, that think anyone that is the "son" of a business owner must get a free ride, or "it must be nice." I find it silly. Who cares about anyone else's situations, since it doesn't effect them and find it silly why someone would waste minutes of their life coming to a judgemental conclusion that has no bearing on their life what so ever. I'm flattered if anyone wants to take time out of their life to sit and ponder about me for no reason.rotfl
Have a nice day. You run your business the way you want hauling construction and we will do what we do hauling many types of ag, and freight. Along with our farming.
Fine. Put them on a dump truck. No one runs them on anything else, especially freight.
Sounds familiar, reminds me of the statment you made that "no one runs the T444E". Just because your family doesnt run them doesnt mean "no one" does. I used to do the lettering on trucks for several companies in the area, and while nowhere near as comon as the 22.5's, I saw several trucks still running them, and not all dump trucks.

Damn I still can't find a similar photo of the 3500DRW I saw:doah:
I have only seen a dully that big when it was setup with mud tires.
This one has Big Rig theam writen all over it...I still thik they were bigger than 24.5..could be wrong ofcoarse..I guess I was mostly amazed that it was actually towing a gooseneck inclosed hauller...being so forkin high:doah:

The amount of "onroad" OTR trucks are much, much higher than different dump trucks and other miscelanious specialty trucks.

What about these on John's truck? They fill the fender wells but not overbearing.

Hey now, take it easy on yourself a little there Brisk. Opinions are what this wonderful country were built on. I too thought that very thing when John came home with these wheels the second day he owned it, but it grew on me. Not that my 4X4 would ever get those. No matter how stupid the next guy sounds, he is entitled to his stupid opinion. This is just my feeble attempt to gain post count.

I'll save my opinion until I find out what tires he has on it... If they detract from the capacity of the truck then it's stupid, if not then they're just funny looking.rotfl

We run all interestate freight and local agriculture trucks. Nearly no one runs 24.5 standards in that situation, especially freight. They add too much heigth to the deck.

i dunno about that, keep in mind i live in SoCal... never seen any one of theese trucks on dirt.... just on I-15 and I-5.....
they also run tires that are shorter than Bud style 24.5's and 22.5's BUT they are MUCH wider...

Stay away from Chromewheel!! He sells USED wheels as NEW!! I have about 5K worth of wheels and tires sitting in storage! They will not fit my truck and he won't return my calls or e mails! :doah: :doah: I ended up buying another set of NEW wheels and tires from www.texastrucktoys.com (http://www.texastrucktoys.com) for $4200.00 to my door! Texas Truck Toys is not the ones selling the wheels it's a member off www.fullsizedodge.com (http://www.fullsizedodge.com) that is selling them and from what I understand they paided trucktoys to help them promote this deal. It took about 3 days for me to get my wheels and tires very good people to deal with waytogo
