The previous owner of my 2001 Dodge Cummins had a Pendaliner plastic bed liner installed. Problem with it is that it is slick and everything slides around violently in the bed. I have seen a few trucks with the Spray in bed liners and probably would have gone with that if it would have been me choosing a bed liner. So why not pull out the plastic liner and have the Line X stuff put in you ask? well the plastic liner comes over the top of the bed and sits on the bed rails. I have pulled back the rails and found a bunch of scratches and scuffs from the liner wearing against the paint.

My question is what would you guys do with it? Do the spray in liner bed rails that they use sit down on the bed rail itself as far as the plastic liners (so it will cover the scratches)?

Get a spray-in liner over the rails, if you're woried it won't look right then get one that's color matched to the truck. It'll make the bed look like new and from 10 feet away you won't even be able to tell that it's textured on the bedrails.waytogo

BTW, I'd recommend a Rhino, a buddy of mine got the Line-X and it seems to chip real easy.

I've got Linex over the rails and that stuff is brutal strong. Transfer cases and all sorts of stuff sliding around an no chips yet. From what I hear, you need to look for a good experienced applicator since strength and chip resistance is 95% in the prep. I got mine through a "connection" and specifically talked to them about careful prep.

On colors, be careful. Most do not warranty the color match (initially or even fade resistance) and some colors fade badly. I was going to get mine done in white until the applicator explained to me that it yellows in sun. :mad: So, black matches my trim anyway, and that's what I got.

You could get diamond plate alumininum rail covers to hide the tops too.

I don't really like the textured look on the rails, I think I would go with the hard black plastic railing or the diamond plate like Super Trucker mentioned. I would just go with black as the color, I've also heard about the colors fading easy and I like black anyway.

I hear ya on the textured over the rail, and considered that myself. But over the rail was a "free upgrade" offered at the time, and I can always cover it if I don't like it, plus it provides protection for the cap when it's on the bed. And I don't care at all for the checker plate stuff on my truck. There is very little chrome/bling on it and I like it that way.

If it were me, i would do the over the rail and then stick something like diamond plate trim over it. That way its covered and sealed back up, but i guess this would depend on how bad the bedliner has chafed the bedrails.

So far I have not been able to scratch it or damage it in anyway. I have hauled alot of crap to, including busted up bathroom tile & brick rubbish. I also don't have any sliding around issues at all. Oh and it was 300 bucks, under the rails not on top. In your case I would just get the rails done along with the bed. Atleast is won't be all scrached up....

I'll have to take a look at your truck when I come and pick up the paint can some time this weekend. :)
