what are the differences between a hd and ld 2500. aside from the front suspension . is the frame equal in strength and how well does the 14bolt rear axle hold up to towing in the 6500-8000 lb range. i use my ld as mainly a daily driver but im considering selling my 93 gmc 2500 6.5td since i hardly drive it at all now. but dont want to abuse my 2000 .

There are frame differences, brake differences, strength in the suspension, etc.. That being said, I think you'll be fine towing the weights you listed. Check the owners manual and see what it says for max recommended.

Check this recent thread. (http://towrig.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1481) Not exactly on target, but might provide some value...

One of the biggest differences between the two is that the HD has a full floating axle.waytogo
