BD is a Diesel power train specialty manufacturer and distribution centre located in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. The company presently employs 60 people and the facility covers 45,000 square feet. The original company Valley Fuel Injection Ltd. is celebrating its 33nd year in business. Fuel Injection Calibration Department

BD specializes in Ford, Dodge and GM/Allison truck transmissions. Every transmission and torque convertor is redesigned to handle double the amount of factory torque. Complete exchange towing or race transmissions plus valve bodies and accumulator bodies are available. Torque Convertors with custom designed stators, double and triple clutches and stamp forged covers for high power applications are also built.

What's on tap for the 06 Ram 48RE, is it basicly the same tranny as the 05, just a few software upgrades?
What would be a first thing to do to a stock tranny in order to handle a little more power, VB, TC?

You are correct the Valve Body and Torque Convertor are the first upgrades you are going to want to do to that tranny. The 48RE is definitely a much better tranny than the 47RE but in my opinion Chrysler still dropped the ball with the inefficient torque convertor. The Valve body equals better clutch apply pressure and better shifts, who wouldn't want that! :)

Like you said there has been little changes to the 06 year but never the less BD will fully complete testing on the Valve Body and Convertor before they are official released. We are hoping for a February release for the V/B, T/C and Turbo Mount Exhaust Brake, the remote mount exhaust brakes are already released. The new BD X-Tuner, Super B Single and Twins Turbo kits should be ready for early spring.

What kind of turbo do you recomend for better off the line performance whithout hurting everyday/towing drivability?

I assume you are referring to your Dodge?

Most turbo chargers that we develop are not going to increase spool up time, with the exception of the twins. The industry has always been bigger turbo equals more boost which equals more lag but cooler EGT's or the other side of that is a smaller turbo equals less boost but a faster spool up time and higher EGT's.

With all the power these trucks are making now a smaller turbo for quicker spool up does not really work because of all the heat (EGT's) these truck are building, we focus more on the top end without sacrificing bottom end spool up time. We use a new technology (extended fin tip design) that allows us to use a small wheel to spool up fast like a small turbo but the extended tip design allows it to scoop much more air in the top end (like a big turbo), thus we can run it like a big turbo without loosing spool up time. Like I said before the only real way to improve spool up time and get better top end is too run the twins.

The best way to get better acceleration is to increase the HP with a chip then use a BD turbo to keep it cool at the top end, you will always have some lag but with the Super B it will be as minimal as possible.

Intercoolers are much more complex than most realize, while watching the day to day development of the BD Intercooler I found it to be very educational, it made me realize exactly how much is involved in a good performing intercooler and how intelligent those engineers here at BD really are! :stir:

With out sounding too technical I will try pointing out some of the key advantages the BD Intercooler has over the Banks.:popcorn:

The first difference is we are 1” larger in overall size of the cooling surface; the biggest difference is going to come from the fins and tube design. The Banks Intercooler uses a stuffed-tube design which is more prone to heat and pressure distortion. Their fins are stuffed into their tubes and when heated the fins separate from the cooling tubes. The BD Intercooler uses a newer technology, extruded-tube, which is a higher quality; much stronger design allowing it to withstand higher pressures and heat. :D

The second major difference is the amount of cooling tubes used; with the BD intercooler we use 49 cooling tubes vs. Banks that uses 31 cooling tubes. We can achieve this because we are approximately 1” taller and use a slightly smaller tube. Think of it as a heat sink with say 5 large cooling fins vs. a heat sink with say 10 smaller cooling fin, the one with ten smaller cooling fins will cool much more effectively because of more actual cooling surface. :D

thanks for the info Dave, I will be pushing the BD intercooler over the techni. By the way, slipped the clutch bad (completely broke loose and pegged the tach) racing our short box 06 lastnight. What is BD offering for the G56?

BD uses mostly South Bend Clutches, I just got off the phone with them and they do offer clutches for the 2005-2006 G56.

350HP - 750ft/lbs $700
450HP - 1000ft/lbs $1000
550HP - 1100ft/lbs $1100

These are complete kits including the flywheel, throughout bearing etc... These are US retail price, P/M and I can get your cost on the kits.

I read somewhere that BD has some kind of a torque management system? Anymore info?

The BD Top Speed Eliminator for the Dodge's address the torque management de-fueling issues in first and second gear for the 99-2004 automatics. The 2004.5 - 2006's do not have a seperate ECM and PCM anymore, the transmission is now controlled through the ECM which has made it very difficult to correct the torque management of the 04.5 - 2006's, we are still working on it but do not have an ETA at this point.
