I have a 2000 PSD. Great truck. Use it almost exclusively for towing heavy trailers. no problems except fuel quality which caused poor mileage and power. Anyway, I currently use a K&N Air Filter. But, I hear those are no good? poor filtration.
what filter to you recommend? and why?
thanks

I have the afe 1 with pro guard 7 filter media. I have received good tests back on my oil with it. Low Silicon. You might want to get a Pre Wrap for it though to keep the larger obstructions out of the pleats.

I use an AMSOIL Power Core Air Filter in my 2003 F350 with the 6.0L PSD. AMSOIL just came out with a new intake and filter for the 7.3L PSD:
AMSOIL 7.3L PowerStroke Air Induction System (http://www.c66racing-synthetics.com/Product%20Bulletins/PCIS73PB.htm)

Nice looking setup. What does it set you back?

AMSOIL policy prevents me from quoting prices online, but I dropped them to you in a PM.

It may be as AMSOIL makes this statement on the product page:
"The Donaldson air induction system is three times more efficient than the industry-leading cellulose media. The layered structure from PowerCore technology is totally non-metallic and allows for 99.95 percent efficiency. The highly efficient Donaldson PowerCore air filter is the only aftermarket induction system that is approved by Ford Motor Company."
I suspect that the filter element is probably different that what Ford is selling, but I really don't know.
As I mentioned above, I can't quote prices online, but if someone knows what the Ford AIS system costs, I can let you know if the AMSOIL system is over or under that price, and if anyone wants specific pricing info, they can drop me a PM.

Those prices are slightly under the AMSOIL retail and wholesale prices respectively. However, the AMSOIL wholesale price isn't a sale and should remain fairly constant all year.

I've heard that the Ford AIS filter is capable of holding up to 3 pounds of dirt before a noticing a decrease in airflow. Ford is also denying warranty claims if poor air filtration is found to be the cause of turbo or engine failure. If I had to do it all over again, I'd put the AIS in my truck.

This is a Donaldson filter system made by Donaldson. Ford is also selling the same thing. This is a very good filter. This is what I have been useing for a year and half now.
