first, anyone know if i have to pull the trans out, or can i get away with just sliding it back to get the engine out of the 93?
well, had a busy weekend. got this in michigan on saturday
93 F350 ex cab dually, 7.3L turbo diesel with a 5 speed
the good, its a turbo motor, 5 speed and new clutch. the bad, engines locked up. DOH

then today came around. got my friend and dad to come along. dad drove the loader down, friend brought the torch truck and i took the tow truck down to get this. 88 f250 2wd, 7.3L diesel automatic, with a newer engine it it with 100k miles. c6 trans is junk, and frame is bent/cracked.

hads no tires on it and rear axle is only attached by the shocks.

4 7.3L trucks all in one spot. bad huh?

a few hours later, front clip was off, and engine was isolated.
hill billy hoist. removed starter, trans lines, linkage and crossmember wile hoisted

since i already had the core cupport off we decided to just pull the 4 body mounts bolts and lift the cab up so that way we could remove it engine and trans as one.

hell of a body lift

red truck is pushed out, and white truck was dropped in its place.
intake gasket showed up at the shop today also.
good engine has flywheel, and exhaust removed and is sitting on the stand
white truck has the hood removed, fluids drained, and rad/fan off. gonna start in again on it tommorow night and hope to have the engine isolated.
hope to get it out of the truck by friday so i can spend saturday swapping engine parts over(injectors, lines, manifold, valve covers, turbo, front accesories, clutch)

getting the down pipe and the cross over was a pretty big bitch. had the truck on fire a few times trying to get them off intact. never knew the heat sheild for the slave cylinder could catch fire.

well, im pretty happy for a truck that i had no idea about, bought on ebay and could not test drive.

got it on the road today
starts and runs excellent, makes good power. trans shifts good, flywheel has a small vibe, but common for these trucks, and the truck stops good.
so far i nthe last 3 weeks of workign on it evenings i have.
dragged the truck home
removed a good engine,
removed this trucks engine
swapped all the turbo parts to other engine
reinstall engine
get running, wire electric fuel pump in place of mechanical
pair of front shocks
pair of front tires due to bad shocks
fixed 1 rear tire
fixed E brake-needed cables
rear brake lines from master to wheel cylinders
wheel cylinders
shoes
straightened rear bumper brackets
fixed speedo
fixed WTS light
fixed fuel selector switch

it is now road ready.
i still need to get the windshield wipes to work correctly. they do not park, and do not have a high rate of speed. believe it is the module in the right side of dash, as the multifunction switch is good, and i swapped out the board on the motor.
needs a windsheild-scratched badly
body work- repair rust on extended cab where they all blow out. gonna weld in steel, then body filler to make smooth. needs front fenders. may try to weld in patch kits, or boneyard fenders
needs paint. gonna look into prepping it myself and either having somebody spary it cheap, or try spraying it myself.

Is this truck going to replace the Red one??
nope. the red one is my tow vehicle. its a 97 powerstroke that moves!
all it does is tow that gooseneck around with junk, toys or other misc stuff.
the white one i will be daily driving till i sell it instead of the 04 chevy pickup i am driving now. all the parts i have installed to date have been free or cheap, so that has bee na major budget build. hope to make it a good looker, and then sell it for a profit.
engine was free
speed sensor in rear end was free
front tires where free
front shocks where free
rear brakes shoes where free
i mostly spent money on pidly stuff such as brake lines, fluids, filters, hoses, wheel cylinders and other misc stuff to make it run.
hasnt cost me much money, just lots of labor.

awesome work, new here to towrig, but had my idi for 2.5 years now and still runs awesome. These engines are easy to work on, fully mechanical and relatively cheap, i love these old school trucks. Those stock dmf suck, if you didnt have any intention of selling, i would suggest swapping in a LUK smf. These old engines need to be kept on a strict regemine of sca and low silicate coolant, cause of thin cylinder walls.

If the stock turbo housing is still on it can be upgraded by ATS and also a real downpipe instead of that sorry excuse crushed straw, ford put on. Sounds like you should get a nice chunk of change for you workwaytogo

I took it for a short spin today, and it actually drives pretty nice. The rock hard clutch and accelerator takes some time to get used to, especially when combined with one of the touchiest brake pedals ive ever felt. Other than that its not a bad rig.
