Recently purchased a 1984 3/4 4x4, 350/TH400. I plan on pulling 8K worth of horse trailer. Need some suggestions on how I should build my 350/TH400 combo. I won't be putting a big block in until next year, so I need something to hold me over for now. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Drop a 400 crank in it to make it a 383. Throw a shift kit in the trans and some 4.56s in the axles and be done!!waytogo

you swapping parts out, or are you rebuilding the engine?

my engine is bored .60 over, Comp r/v cam, small tube headers, stock intake, and edelbrock carb... if I were to do it all over again, I'd probably go with the matched Performer series set including new heads, but my big block is gonna be more beneficial than swapping parts again.

I can do either just bolt on parts or completely rebuild the engine. I have another 350 sitting around I can use also.

I am going to try a flat-top 350 with vortec heads and a Performer carb. I don't know if it will work out or not but I am going to try it in my 84 k-20

I would find me a core out of a 350 vortec truck w/ a hyd roller cam. bore it .030 over with a small dish piston, and use a comp extreme 4x4 cam. that should give you a good strong 400+ lbs of torque.
good luck
