Well I just bought a trailer. Sorry no pics as it is a few thousand miles away from me and only ones I have are not electronic. So anyways it is a 20 ft, 10 or 14,000 gvw. It was used but got a good deal on it plus it helps a friend out.

Now I have been reading on here and seen a post or two saying that it makes a difference in the type of tires that are on there. From the pics it looks like Ford rims and tires are on there, Is this good?

Also I am loooking at stripping it down and re finishing it, frame wise. Anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking something like POR 15 chassis coating.

Anything else I should be looking to do on it? I am contemplating putting on an electric brake lock up so if the trailer is dis connected from the tow vehicle the brakes lock up. Also going to replace the jack on it. It has a jack in the center of the tongue but contemplating another location. should I leave it be?

good deal james... the breakaway is your best first upgrade. it's required in a lot of states and I'd be surprised if it didn't have some sort of system in place already.

as far as tires, if they are the ford 5 lug, I'd be sure and double check the axle rating before you overload it. Most of our 5 lugs are just 3500lbs each. sucks, and it's not always the case, but most often is. a good trailer tire will do great. don't sweat the specifics of the brand, just check the load rating and the # of plys. More is better.

The POR 15 is good stuff, but pricey. just as easy to sand/strip it and prime and paint in ag or commercial enamel.

Thanks for the input. I will be home in a few weeks so will be able to get started on all of the little projects that have piled up over the past 6 months. First one os to get the trailer to the house with the new tow rig. Again thanks for the advice.
