I'm currently running BFG 295/75-16 All terrain at's.
They are at the end of their glorious life and I'm feverishly searching for an E range replacement. I'd like to stay with an AT or an MT (315/75-16) if possible.

The Toyo Open Country MTs seem like a great tire, unfortunately I can't locate anyone that has them in stock. I'm being told by several of the local retailers I'm looking at up to 6 months (backorder) and the BFG's won't go that long....

So what are you guys & gals running?

other than 20" tires and some 18" tires, i havent seen very many "good" e range tires. most are going to be from 245 to 265. just about everything else is a d range tire which under most all conditions is plenty

I wanted to stay with E range, to be safe. But there are several D range tires that have Max ratings higher than some E range tires. I don't quite understand it all yet.

My set of 6 Toyo Open County AT 265/70-17's are due in tomorrow for the dodge, load range E. We'll see how they fit the duals. I've heard they are fine.

I am running 35" BFG AT's, I understand your concern about an E rated tire. We had a good discussion on here a while back about the diiference between the 2 when some D rated tires were rated higher in total weight capacity than a E rated tire. I have had no problems with my D rated BFG's. I have heard others claim they got the death wobble from D rated tires.....I don't really know how that could cause it???

Have you looked into Nittos? I think there tera grappler or whatever it is called is an E rated tire with an agressive yet well mannered road tread. My boss has a set on his F150.....

I found a link for you http://www.nittotire.com/tires_terragrappler.asp

I run the Toyo Open Country A/T and I love them. They don't work worth a damn in the mud, but in the sand and snow they are an excellent tire. They also handle my 5er very well and didn't require a bunch of weight to balance out. I only get a very slight vibration at about 85mph.

Anyone running a "large" commercial type tire? Like those that fit 22+ inch rims for example.

I run Michelin LTX-MS 245-76-R16 Load Range E
Not good if you like to mud, but a real quiet and smooth street tire. It also handles the snow and ice real well thanks to the generous siping. I got 65K on my last set. I always change to new at 4/32"

I run Bridgestone V Steel MIX LT235/85R16 10 ply grippers all around. They have been on the truck for 5yrs. and have not had 1 flat yet. They can really pack a load without rubbing together on the duals. I only run them at 70psi cause it makes for a harsh ride if you add anymore air to them.
I also ran the same tire on my 92 ram 4x4 and never had any trouble with them either.waytogo

I am currently running Cooper Discoverer stt, load range D but the same weight rating as the E.
Fantastic in the mud and snow, and a little wobbley(sp) in the corners.

I have two sets, one for summer and one for winter. BFG Rugged trail 285/75/16 for summer. They are good street tires, but absolutely no good in wet grass, light mud, or gravel. They just do not grip, I have to use 4x4 all of the time, well almost. For winter plowing I use Cooper ATR's LT235/85/16-E they are great in snow and all other low traction situations. Not noisy on the dry pavement either. I will buy them again when the BFG Rugged Trail tires wear out.
Other tires I have had;
Michelin LTX I did not like them in snow, wet grass, or mud. The M/S designation is false advertisement IMO. They were a good street tire.
BFG A/T they are very good all around, but getting rather pricey.
Firestone Steeltex They wear forever, wet street traction is only ok, but added siping helped that a lot. Snow, mud, wet grass traction was ok too.
I know different trucks will have different handling characteristics so my truck is a F350 PSD 4X4 RC SRW. I run an empty bed in summer, but 1000# counter weight and a 9' plow in winter.

I just ordered some Dunlop Rover RVXTs in a LT255/85R16. I heard good things about them & they seem to be rated pretty good.

Anybody else ever ran them?

There's a discussion going on in another forum about the Cooper Discoverer STT's.

Anybody got a picture of them on their truck?

I took two pictures of them last time I was in the tire shop:

285/16's Dayton Timberline M/T's on my dually--Best tires I've ever owned!
325/22's Nitto 404 on John's dually

We've tried all of the norms- Nitto, BFG, Swamper, none of them come close to performance or last like the Dayton Timberline M/T's on our duallies at least.

BFG A/T's here (285's). I wish more manufacturers would start getting some more options for those of us with tow rigs and 17" wheels...

I run Firestone Steeltex AT LRE. This is what was on it when I got it. When it was time to change, I was going to go to Hankook something or others, but out of stock at the time, so I put new Steeltex AT's on. Then I found in the glove box the receipt from the the previous owner put the Steeltex's on originally. They went 75000 miles. I think I made the right choice - about half the tread gone, at about 35000 miles since. I am a happy man.
