OK so is $4500 smakers too much for a trailer with 2 7K axels brakes on both, wood deck, 1/8" removable fenders, electric brakeaway kit w/ charging system, slide in ramps, 2' dove tail, etc..

This is for a PJ trailer like this:

Holy smokes that's alot of dough... Why did you decide to go all the way up to 7k axles? At that price I hope you're getting all LED lights and alot of D-rings, bulldog coupler and ALLLL the extras.

The trailers I've been looking at are right around $3000 for 10k capacity with some extras.

You're going to have to get a class A licence to tow that thing too...

Shaggy, if they build him a 14K trailer but put a 10K vin tag on it he won't need a class A. waytogo

I haven't bought nothin yet.

I thought if the rating on the vin was 9990 then class c is fine?

I assume when folks talk about 10K trailers everyone is class C cuz of the 9990 rating?????

That is alot more than I was expecting. :doah:

10,000 lbd gvwr and under is class C, Over 10K is class A.

I think Shaggy thought with 7K axles it would be 14,000 lbd gvwr.

Sure, if they'll build it with 7k axles and a GVWR of only 10k then you'd be fine, I didn't realize that that was the plan, Stan. Question - why? Your K5 is what, 7k tops? 2000 lbs for the trailer and 1000 lbs of tongue weight and you're 2k lbs under the capacity on 10k axles anyways. I dunno, it's your money but it seems overkill to me. The trailer itself is going to weigh alot more too and that's going to eat away at your GCWR, cutting down on your choices for slide-ins when the time comes to shop for that. Overkill is good, but there is a point of diminishing returns... Just my opinion.

Maybe Burt wants the bigger brakes and 8 lug wheels. If the frame ect. is off the 10K gvwr trailer I don't think the 7K each axles, brakes, and wheels would be more than a couple hundred lbds heavier. Unless the 7K axcles are solid and the 5.2K axle are hollow.

I think it was down in Tucson area. I had a link but can't find it. I was going to go get one just like his, but couldn't figure out how to store it without taking a second mortgage.

It was John Kerr Mfg. and I got it through ebay. He had a ton of trailers. He had 18 foot deck tag trailers with 8 lug axles for $1800 with steel decks.

I would be fine with getting a trailer with 5K axels as log as both had brakeswaytogo

I think PJ is a bit rich for me, I like the way the front jack mounts to the front of the deck instead of out on the tongue.

Yes I would be willing to go out-O-state, as log as the savings adds up like your Gooseneck did. THat is a hellov a drop in price. My only 'problem' would be 'finding' the time to make the trip. It would have to be a shot there and U-turn right back. SO money is time and time is money...how much is my time worth? Things I need to consider.

I really want a wood deck. I like the idea of being able to attach 'stuff' to the wood and also traction for wet/muddy swampers and lastly during our 100+ summers not getting burned by a steel deck if you have to crawl under the rig to strap up.....wood just seams more versitail.

How long before you buy one Shagg? I will be ready in a week or so....

Any leads on a trailer would be awsome so if you all see/find/hear/trip over one please post up.

Also if you haven't thought about it, we got three guys wanting the same trailer here. What about a group purchase discount? If you go to a trailer place I'm sure they would knock some off the price if you guys all bought together or one guy went in to buy 3...

SO far the answer is NO, "No, we don't do that cuz the manufacture doesn't"

I would think SOMEONE would...???
I think I will scan Ebay.... finding a used 10K is like finding a rust free First Gen...they just ain't out there:eek:

Yeah, but check the deck width on the quote - 96". It's wider in front of and behind the fenders so our trucks don't hang off of it. That's alot of the extra cost there. In retrospect I'd rather have removable fenders, but those would probably be less money than drive-over ones anyways.

Here's the site - http://caltraktrailers.com/

Ya the only 'issue' with drive overs would be if you had to 'drag' you rig up onto the trailer due to carnage, the extra effort to get it up and over the wheel wells may be a PIA...I guess that would depend on the carnage...

Man I have been searching calssified adds on news paper web sites and there aint NOTHING we could use....I give up for now.

Even with a removeable fender I have to drive over the tires to clear the fixed fender. When I loaded the limp carcas up after I broke the tans case in half, going over the tires was really no more trouble than the initial ramp onto the trailer. FWIW, my truck is also wider than my trailer and I wind up leaving about most of the outer lug hanging over when loaded.
