Just wondering how many other Dakota tow vehicles there are.
What engine and gears do you have? Also, what trans cooler?

I used to have that exact truck in Intense Blue, and it was a '98. Well, that is if you have a 5.2L, your post doesn't say.
It towed pretty well until I lifted it. :doah:

It was originally a 5.2L but I swapped in a 5.9L for a little extra oomph. :)

We had an '03 Dakota as a rental when my dad's burb got stolen. It had the 4.8L and was a quick little sucker, I raced that little critter against some buddies and suprised them. rotfl :doah: I don't know how much I would want to tow with it though, it seemed a little light duty. :o

I had a 99 dakota 5.9 RT for a year or so. Only towed watercraft and sleds (grass drag) so nothing heavy. It completely sucked on ice, but being 2wd and having low pro z rated 17s and alot of pony it figures. It had tons of power to pull those items about 1,000 to 1,500 lbs.

I was wondering if I'd be the only one on here with a Dak!
I have the factory HD trans cooler. I really hate the 3.55's! It does pretty well towing if you lock out OD, but with 31's it just runs too low in the rpm's with those gears.
What make/model 5th wheel are you towing in that picuture and what was the GCW? Do you pull a lot of hills or mostly flat? It looks like a great setup!

After I swapped in the 5.9, I also changed the gears to 3.92s to handle the hills a little better. The added Firestone bags keep the Dak level and the Tru-Cool Max handles the tranny temps. It tows quite well now, including the hills in western PA. As configured, my Dak's tow rating is 7500# and load rating is 1850#.
The 5er is an '03 Trail-Lite Super Lite, 26 footer that weighs 4900#/ pin 850# empty.
