that is where the $ is at, the local stuff. I make more $ doing the local (within 50 miles) moves than running the roads. with all the industry up there I would think if you could find your in you would be set.

as for my set up, I started with...

99 Western Star with a 50 ton lowboy to move heavy stuff, then in May my customers wanted me to start moving there small stuff. along came the 06 GMC D/A with a 30' H&H equipment trailer.

i see your point, but would you hire some 21 year old kid with lots of piercings and tattoos to haul your stuff... also, what all do you haul for people?

what all do you haul for people? like I tell everyone, how deep are your pockets?!;) I have moved everything from a 93k# crane to a 45lb piece of art (the customer said it had to go on a lowboy) 99.9% of the stuff I move is construction equipment. it the stuff that needs to go NOW, not 1 hr from now but NOW this minute. makes it hard sometimes, but that is where you can charge a decent rate.

see all the construction companys around my are have more money then they know what to do with, so they have like a truck for every piece of equiptment that they owne... as far as private ind. i guess its worth a try, but i know right now im too young and got too good of a job to give up...

I own a small roofing company and move all my own trash. I have one 10ton gooseneck dump trailer and a 7ton bumper pull dump trailer. I also tow my 32ft boat when there's good weather. Or my stock trailer with a few cows or horses. When work slows down I haul trash for anyone that pays.

I talked to a car salesman I knew who had connections. As to pay, I think most brokers here in Texas pay by the load 80/20 or by the mile $1.50-2.00.
