Check out my new farm tow rig. It's in mint condition and low hours. 140hp with no computers or plastic crap. Its the last of the best that John deere made.

WOW, that's nice! Mind if I ask how much it was? What year? I'm hopefully going to be in the market for a decent 3020 or 3010 diesel in the next year or so and wondered how much I should plan on spending for one. My budget is probably going to be around $5000.

We used to have a '50 Model B. That thing was a dog plowing but it sure was fun to pop around in. waytogo

It cost $27,500, which is pretty good because a new 140hp model is $80,000. Its a 1988 model. These tractors can be rebuilt for pennies on the dollar compared to a new one.

How many acres do you have that you need a tractor for? Just wondering.

Nice Green! When I was a kid, my grandpa had several John Deeres. His biggist was a 4200 series. He also had a 3200 series with a bucket and a couple others I can't remember. However, my favorite was old narrow front Model A. Loved that one. I wish I could convince my Uncle to sell.

We had a 3020, nice tractor, very basic and simple. Even had a old "M" that we used everyday too, worked like a champ.... actually best red tractor we had.

We only farm 10 acres so a 3010 is not absolutely necessary, but I'm a huge John Deere fan and a big tractor enthusiast in general. I'd be looking for a mid-60s model.

We currently have seven tractors now. I'm starting to feel like the Mountian Explorer of John Deere tractors :doah: There's only my dad and I here to run all of them.

The 10 and 20 series tractors are getting pretty old, just make sure you don't buy a complete basket case. You can rebuild them but you don't want to have to rebuild one from front to back.

We paid $30K for our Challenger about a year ago. 4,500hrs/1995 We watch for deals on farm equipment at auctions though because during the winter we get into the buying and selling of equipment. We buy something at the auction that goes cheap, I work on it and tie up any loose ends with it, and turn around and sell it. waytogo How many hours on your 4450? Sounds like you got a fairly decent deal. I see those tractors go anywhere from 20K as a basket case to 35-40K for a clean unit.

There's only my dad and I here to run all of them. Same with us. Just my dad and I too. We are starting to take over my grandpa's ground too, he is getting older but it is pretty cool....three generations of Froboses all Farming rice. :) He has a 4450 himself with MFWD and duals.

It has 3900 hrs. I knew the guy that had this tractor and he was very picky about it. It has new paint and its not a 1 hour midnight paint job. I need to find a set of 42" rims and hubs for it, so I can get some duals upon it.

We've got a 4020 with the synchro shift that is getting near 13,000 hrs on it. It's been overhauled twice. The first overhaul was done with M&W pistons with a turbo, but the second time deere wouldn't warranty the turbo so now it's back to stock. We use it mainly for mixing feed on the hog farm. Even though it's our oldest tractor it gets the most hours put on in a year.
