I am curious if anyone knows the typical return line flow on an 08 med duty truck. He didn't tell me what make, and I didn't think to ask at the time, so I will have to find that out for sure. He has a combination hydraulic/fuel tank and the tank is getting so hot it is melting the rubber molding that goes between the tank and the mounting bands. We have checked the hydraulic system, and doesn't seem to be any problems there. The customer was told by his mechanic that these new diesels return a "huge volume" of fuel back to the tank. It doesn't seem to me like that would be the case. Does anyone have any ideas as far as the fuel system getting very hot. Guessing around 200 degrees to get that rubber to melt.
TIA

check to see if there are any tank heaters turned on. some trucks use them to keep the fuel from jelling, in the summer they can get extremely hot.

Sounds like the tank heater is on all the time.
