Leave it up to Toyo to come out with a truck with great looking aluminum wheels and they look like low profile tires. 19.5s?? Look at the rear axle...

looks like a 1.5 ton rear end out of one of the Hino Delivery trucks. So basically took the drive train out of a diesel delivery van and stuff it under a tundra.

I think I found the specs for the engine shown in the pictures.... I found this on the Hino Website and they are reporting the power and torque of their "J" Series J08Chttp://www.hino.co.jp/e/02/images/ber1.gifTI automotive engine. They are kinda week at...
191 kWs @ 2500 rpm and 745 N-m @ 1500 rpm which converts to ....
256 hp @ 2500 rpm and 550 fl/lb. torque @ 1500 rpm
Considering that we are looking at a 8.0 liter Turbo Diesel Engine, I would say it falls a bit short of the Duramax, Cummins and Powerstroke rigs we drive.

they are probably more true to dyno specs than we are used to seeing. I bet it pulls like a beast. Our trucks dont supply the h\p that they are rated at either. I just wonder if aftermarket will provide some extra ponies?

I think for this project they (Toyota) simply grabbed stuff off their medium duty shelf and slapped it in this truck, I'm sure if and when they were to come out with a viable 1-ton truck it would be with a new motor to compete with the big three.

My thoughts exactly. In order to be competitive or to make their trucks atractive in the US market their going to have to market something with about the same or more hp/torque than the domestics. With 8 liters theres a good chance of seeing more hp/torque than what we are seeing now. Woudn't that be a good way to sell us power loving Americans a foriegn truck?:pimp:

I dont see myself being comfortable in there. I also don't see that thing toating a 52' enclosed either. so I will just keep my F350

Well with numbers like that I dont think it would sell to well but maybe Toyota wants something folks can really tow with. I have to say that is the largest looking rear diff I have seen in a while...:stir:

With a 8.0.L six in it you dought that it could keep up with production trucks? With some tuning(EFI Live anyone?) that thing would be putting a lot of trucks to shame.

The Cummins specs for an ISB aren't nearly as impressive as what the Dodge gets either. I'm sure that 8L will be re-tuned for pickup truck highway hauling. It should be good for well over 400 hp meeting 2010 emisions spec if its actually the engine delivered in the Tundra. But ya, when will we see a bed long enough to haul anything?

Considering Toyota builds their Trucks in the Staates and none of the big 3 exclusively do so...I for one am really interested to see where this goes with the 1 ton tundra and propably would buy one if power output is competitive and they offer an 8 foot bed.

Looks like I'm the only one so far who likes the bed! Let me clarify though...definitely needs to be 8ft, but I like the look of the fenders!
Maybe it's just the picture, but that rear diff looks tiny!! Doesn't look nearly as big as my AAM 11.5" in my Dodge.
And my last bit is I'm thinking the LCD screen in the passenger air bag was just put there for the show!

It' s one of the most ugliest trucks ever built so far in the states. Toyota should sty out of the fullsize truck market. Ford builds there Superduties in a plant in kentucky.
