Anyone else had this happen yet?

This aftermarket intake plenum, exploded on the Dyno an hour ago, hit the underside of the hood, deflected off the hood just missing the tech and still had the speed to hit the 20ft ceiling of our shop. Crazy!!

Truck was a 12 Valve with twins making about 50-60PSI at the time.

Something serious to consider for you guys running dyno's.

i also would like to know what those guys say when you call for a replacement. if you look at the picture you can see that some areas are thinner than others when it comes to wall thickness.
hmm.... might make a couple more ponies, but ill stick to AL thanks.

nope, that is the one made out of plastic... not to name any names... but that should give it away...

Courious to what intake took its place?

First off I am glad that no one was hurt. That must be quite a bit of energy to blow that intake apart and still get that kind of distance. Second, let us know who made it and how they treat you and the customer when it does come to replacement.

Let me start by saying I have no commercial affiliation with any of the intake vendors, and I am only a cheerleader for CFM+ because it made the most in my tests and happens to be the most cost effective.

I tell folks who are planning to run Water/Meth or N2O to go with the ATS. It made almost as much power, and it would take more abuse. If you are not running an adder or huge boost#'s the CFM seems to work pretty darned well.

I am wondering if the folks who have blown them up were running nitrous or water/meth. I would have to think that a 60psi or greater charge that was suddenly infused with cooling mist of one sort or another might cause the plastic to contract rapidly. The contraction with the boost could explain the explosion. Just a thought.."

I know the truck had a water meth kit installed, I am not sure if it was turned on or spraying at the time of failure; regardless you should be able to run water meth through these intakes without having to be concerned about this type of failure, after all they are ported for methanol induction.

I agree that the product is just as good as the aluminum ones for flow but if the truck is being ran on the dyno you should keep the hood closed!

no, i agree fully that if they put ports on there stating that they are for meth and roids, BUT the disclaimer that it is not for race apps kind of makes one wonder why they ported them...

i have always liked the aluminum manifolds myself and will stick with one of them when the time comes(SOON!)

I am very happy with my BD x intake thats for sure
