OK, I found a couple of new trailers that seem like good deals, let me know what you guys think...
Option #1 -
Carson trailer
10k GVWR, brakes on both axles
plain douglas fir deck
6" Channel frame
3" crossmembers on 16" centers
16" 8 lug wheels
2' dovetail
stake pockets
No D-rings or rub rail
7k drop leg jack
82" wide
18' deck length including dovetail
2 5/16" ball
Price is $2838 + tax, so about $3060 and I can pick it up next weekend, about $150 miles away, so $50 in fuel.
Option #2
Kaufman trailer
10k GVWR, brakes on both axles
treated deck
6" Channel frame
3" crossmembers on 16" centers
16" 8 lug wheels
2' dovetail
4 D-rings
stake pockets and rub rail
Flush mounted lights
7k drop leg jack
2 5/16" Bulldog hitch
83" wide
20' deck length including dovetail
$3165 delivered to my door. This is basically everything I wanted in a trailer so I'm leaning this way, the main problem is that it may not make it in time for Blazerfest in July, in which case I'd be upset.
The advantage goes to the Kaufman for a rub rail, d-rings, spare tire and wheel, treated deck, flush mounted lights, an inch more deck width and a Bulldog hitch.
The Carson has the advantage purely for availability and $75.

Well you can treat the deck in 10min with thompsons water seal..
The D-rings you can add
SO the carson has no resessed light? Thats dumb...
Ya the Kaufman does sound better...but damn two moths??
My PJ was ordered and delivered in 4weeks.
To your DOOR is perrty freakin sweet...Can you pick it up and save a couple weeks?
You HAVE TO have it for BF

6" Channel frame
3" crossmembers on 16" centers
16" 8 lug wheels
2' dovetail
4 D-rings
spare tire mounted to tongue
stake pockets and rub rail
Flush mounted lights
7k drop leg jack
2 5/16" Bulldog hitch
breakaway box
83" wide
20' deck length including dovetail
5' ramps

Holy crap, a pig just flew by my window and I just got a pop up for a new ski resort in Hades. Shaggy bought something without researching it for 6 months first. rotfl :stir:

Cool, what did they charge you for delivery and how far do they go?
Shaggy
05-21-2005, 12:43 AM
$395 for delivery on a tag trailer anywhere in the US. Total price including delivery was about $3200. Pretty good deal if you ask me... :pimp:
Marker, I've been researching for 6 months, this is the place I was planning on going through all along, I was just trying to save money going used first. :D

Congrats on the trailer. waytogo Kauffman builds some really nice ones for allot less money than you expect to spend.
Now if you see a white Dodge dually pull up when you take delivery you better be ready to talk. That’s the guy that runs the place and he is a really nice guy but man he can talk the ears off a wooden Indian…if you didn’t catch that over the phone already.

I talked to some dude named Andy, he didn't seem all that talkative though. :D

Cool, he has one made now that he called and asked me if I wanted instead so I could get it earlier, it had all of the same stuff except it was 18' overall with a 4' dovetail. The dove was steel and the deck was treated wood. I passed on it, figured since I waited this long I could wait another couple of weeks to get exactly what I want.

Cool, let us know when you get it delivered, did you have to pay in full at order time?
Shaggy
06-15-2005, 12:26 PM
Nope, they take the delivery charge as the deposit, which is $395, then you pay the balance COD when the trailer is delivered. Not sure what's up with the deposit though since it was never actually charged to my credit card. (Shhhh :D )

They keep frickin pushing the ship date back, it's pissing me off. Now it looks like I might miss Blazerfest entirely since it may not be here until late next Friday. Originally he said that I'd have it the first week in July at the latest.

I have his trailer at my house, but if I tried to put my truck on it the wheels would probably fall off :P

Want me to get Steven's for you?
Shaggy
07-07-2005, 11:10 PM
Yeah, that might be my only other option. I should know tomorrow if mine will be here, the thing is, if it arrives on say, Friday, I have to be here to take delivery. So even if I can get another trailer to use I'll have to come home on the day of delivery so I can pay the driver the balance on mine. I guess it's only 45 minutes to get home from HH though so it's not that huge of deal.

Hey Burt, when are you going? Maybe after you get there, we could turn around and use that purty new trailer of yours to get Shaggy's rusty bucket of junk out there. :D
I think I might even be able to drive your truck if necessary. rotfl

If you want to use chain go to Harbor Freight either Fremont or Salinas. Get 2 20’ grade 70 trucker chains and 2 screw type binders. You can find 10k straps at Wal-Mart.

Let me know what you think when you get it, if you like it then I will order the same thing at that time, need by end of Sept so I should order soon but might as well wait a few days to see what you think.

OSH sells KEEPER brand ratchet straps fer 16 bucks a piece. The one in Modesto caries both stake pocket flat hooks and regular hooks. Keeper brand is made in the USA too waytogo
From the rule book, a tie down at each corner is required and they don't care if it's chain or strap as long as the load rating matches your load....I'm sure you knew all this ;)
GREAT NEWS!!!!
See ya ina week waytogo

Cool, thanks!
Hey Burt, what time are you leaving? You heading down 165 into LB or swinging over to 5 on 132? Depending when you're going I might try to time it to catch you on the freeway so we can caravan in. waytogo

Got another call this morning, the guy I bought the trailer from drove out to his dump trailer builder to get the rest of the trailers on Friday that are on the load to CA so I would get my trailer on time. He said that they were all loaded up and the driver was leaving by 9am Texas time and I'll have my trailer sometime Tuesday. There was a bit of a mixup with the wheels so my spare is an 8 lug instead of a 6 lug and he's sending me another 6 lug via UPS.
Anyone need a spare 8 lug trailer wheel?

I ordered some Ericksons from Summit yesterday, they're supposed to be here on Thursday. I remember you had some custom made, but I don't think that I'll have time to get to SJ to get them made next week. Should have gotten them earlier...
