Fellas, I am thinking that as soon as I can scrounge all the $$ together Im going to put a diesel in my old '77 Ford. So for those of you who know a thing or two I have a question, will the 4 spd manual the is currently mated to a 400m bolt up to a international 6.9 without an adapter? You may call me crazy for wanting to put a 6.9 while everybody else is after a 12V Cummins but I want to make this rig different and im not looking for huge horsepower but rather the simplicity in a swap and decent economy. Any insight is welcome.

Do you know what the transmission is? The 6.9's all came with 4 speeds. I would think economy would be much better if you can source up a 5 speed to bolt to it, get that overdrive to get the RPMs down when cruising.

Whichever 4spd manual came factory in 1977. T18? I cant remember, A five speed would be nice, Im thinking about a gear vendors instead. I want to keep the truck as much original as I can. The only thing it has different today is the 400m.
