Soo, I keep hearing that Ford has had some PS reliability issues in the past, are they worked out for 2005? What was the problem in the past or was there even one?

Problems were primarily with the programming on the thing, they've come out with a ton of flashes for the computer to try to fix it. There were injector issues also, some blocks that had perma-leaks because of lousy machine work and blown head gaskets that I personally think is the result of people bombing an engine that can't handle massive boost.

It seems like the 2005s are way better, you still hear of problems, but you hear of problems with all of the brands when you go to the various brand-specific forums. The main problem that they're having now is with the Torq-shift transmission, the reverse planetaries are blowing up because of a part that was made out of tolerance. Not a problem for me since the Ford is available with the 6 speed in the fancy-pants trim levels, so I ordered that anyways.:D

My opinion on the 2005 6.0 is that it looks like they have the kinks worked out for the most part. As far as the 6.0 in general, I don't think it has nearly the power potential as the D-max or Cummins, but I personally wouldn't bomb any of them. I just want a nice tow rig, I'm not going to go race the thing. I know that the "cool" thing to do these days is to have a big ass diesel pickup that blows the doors off of imports, but that's not what I bought the truck for. If I want to go fast I'll spend a hell of a lot less money and build me a classic car rather than void the warranty on a $50k truck.

When is your new rig going to be in?

They said 6-8 weeks, alot of guys have been getting them in as little as 4-5, but a few that get wierd options are waiting over 12. I'm starting to get anxious though...:o

My neighbor has a 2004 Harley Edition with the 6.0 and torque shift tranny. We put an 80HP chip and he hasn't had any issues pulling a 6 ton RV trailer. I've also heard of the injector and computer problems but would bet they have it figured out by now.

Thinking about getting a new '05 Ford PS 6.0 and 6 spd to replace the Burb Steve? ;)

Haha, I will not be able to get anything until the 06 model year, so will not make any decissions until then as things may change from all three.
If I could order an 06 Ford with a Dodge Cummins and a GM interior then I would have something. :D

I love the Ford truck, but I wouldn't touch the 6.0 at all...so I got the Dodge.

i like the fords and all the bugs are out of the 6.0 but i do not like it the 6.0 is allready going to be replaced it just not a strong power plant a new moter will be out in like 2007

the 24V dodge is strong or a 7.3 ford

Any more info on the new Ford powerplant?

All i know is that its going to be 6.4L, Ford wants a bigger motor, the 6.0's are being outgunned.

Rumor has it that it will have twin turbos too.

Would be cool if they had it ready for 2006 though.

They're supposed to start selling the '07s real early next year, the 2006 model year is going to be pretty short, probably make the last one by Oct or so of this year.
