How many gallons does a 2nd gen long bed diesel tank hold? I'm guessing it's around 30-32 but would like to know exactly.
Just for fun, is the short bed the same capacity?

If my memeory is working the LB uses a 35 gallon tank and the SB use a 34 gallon tank.
Tom
I have put 34 gallons in mine before when I was trying to run it low to get rid of some bad fuel. When the 2nd Gen. gauge reads empty there is still several gallons left in the tank. Diamler was most likely covering their butts on that one.

Oh ok. I hardly ever even let mine go down low enough where the little "ding" and gas pump light comes on. I just usually fill up again right before an 1/8 tank. So that means there is a 500 mile range, I went 440 miles on about 23-25 gallons.

Yeah , I usually try to keep the tank above a quater tank but the few times I have run it low ( to run out questionable fuel ) I have gotten close to 550 miles to a tank before I got too chicken and had to filler up.

How about a 1st gen 91'-93' long box? ;) My fuel gauge is not the most accurate and I don't want to run out... I've never put in more than 19 gallons and the gauge showed about 1/8th.

That's what I've always heard. I fill up with about 1/4 left, but I have let it go all the way to the empty mark and only put in 27gal. Something to think about, the tanks are long and if you get on a decent slope you could still have several gal. left but the pickup not be submerged in the fuel. This has caused me some headache on an old Mack before, I had about 15gal. in each tank and the truck was on flat ground and it still wasn't picking up any fuel.

I have a short bed, I think it's 34 gallons. I wouldn't think it would be cost effective for Dodge to produce a 2nd tank for long beds that was only one gallon larger.

Don't know about 2nd gens, but 3rd gens SB= 34 gallons, and LB= 35 gallons. :doah:
