I just got my F250 and I know that the front axle is a Dana 60 but what is the rear axle? Admittedly, I haven't crawled under there and looked at the tags yet. Just wondered if anyone knew offhand.

It's a 10.50" version of the older 10.25" Sterling that Ford started to use in 1985. It is no longer called sterling and for the life of me I can not think of the new name of the maker of the axle - I think it is something like Visteon.
It is a good axle !

Yep, Visteon is the correct name.

The Sterling/Visteon 10.50 is the rearend on ALL F250s/F350 SRWs. The Dana 80 is on the F350 DRW.

fronts not a d60........

Well, if that's true, then they changed the axle between the '05 and '06 year models. According to Ford's brochure for the 2005 F250:

"NEW Dana 60 Front Axle - We raised the capacity of the 4x4 front axle. Now its heavy-duty, 35 spline axle shaft and oversize 9 3/4" ring gear are engineered to power through the punishment of off-road driving. This higher rated axle raised the maximum front GAWR to a best-in-class 6000 lbs. for greater load carrying capabilities."

Now I wasn't aware of any real changes between '05 and '06 other than paint schemes and that godawful chrome package. Having an axle change after one year of a model run would be pretty odd. If they changed the '06 front axle model from the '05 model can you let us know what it is and where you got the information?

Thanks. --Don

Incorrect. The '99-'00 Superduties have the D50, the '01-'04 have the D60 with 35 spline inners/30 spline outers, the '05 and up have the D60 with 35 spline inners and outers.

Oh ok I stand corrected. My friend had a 2000 F-350 w/a D50 so I assummed they all had em till 05:doah:

Ah, no biggie. Being a former Superduty owner myself, I figured I'd post the info.
