You gotta wonder if it's like that in Florida because there's a bunch of Oldsters down there, just waiting to get bilked out of their life savings.
It reminds me of the South Park episode that was on last night, where Pat Robertson was on TV asking for donations to build the "600 Club Intergalactic Starcruiser". Hilarious. "Now, Jesus needs your money so that we can get a Negative Ionic Tractor Beam Disrupter and Argon Crystallic Lasers. Need to have Argon Crystallic Lasers to penetrate thick space hulls so that we can spread the word of Jesus."

I used to go to church when I was a kid, quit when I was a teen, and now I'm starting to go again because I am starting to feel the need to go again. My GF is fairly religious and wants me to convert to Catholism.

May I make a suggestion? Convert to catholicism because YOU want to, not because your GF wants you to. You won't ever be happy with your choice if its forced on you.
I haven't been to church in a while, but thats mostly because I work just about every sunday, and don't really have a choice in the matter. My Fiancee and I are Christians, and plan on going to our church more regularly once things settle down a bit as far as marriage, home buying and things go.

I have no problem against those that go, as long as they don't judge me for not going.
Never been to church, most likely never will.

I go to church cause I get to drive the bus. Did I mention it is a Chevy Kodiak C5500, with Dmax/Allison. It is sweet! I was on the committee that picked it out.

Wow, luckily this is a mature forum. I find the 3 absolutly taboo subjects that will start more fights than anything are politics, religion, and your favorite nascar driver.
I'm with the crowd that used to go as a kid. Was forcefed religion, baptised 3 different times for 3 different religions. And I'm done with it.

I'm also very impressed by the level of maturity and reasonable responses so far, I hope it continues.
I had actually typed out a rather lengthy response of my own thoughts, then decided that it would probably draw out those with less restraint and cause problems. So, rather than risk a blow up, I'll just leave it with this.
I do not go to Church other than very rarely as a sign of respect/support at a funeral, wedding, or some such. In fact, given my family's situation it really can't be any other way, but that suits me just fine…

I don't go to church, but I do believe there is a higher power out there as well. Church is just not my thing, but I absolutely have high respect for anybody who goes. Everyone I know who goes to church regularly is very dedicated and I think thats pretty cool.

Growing up I was forced to go, then the wife drug me along, now its like punishment. Expecialy with a hangover. I dont enjoy it, I only go to keep her off my back. I realise its the wrong reasons in all aspects, but you married guys understand... right?
I think the Church we go to is just not my kind of place. They all get dressed up in suits and ties. I show up in blue jeans and a t-shirt and they look at me like Im scum. Like anything I own will impress God.

I go one or two times per month as the schedule allows. I don't get all dressed up uber fancy, just a decent pair of pants and a reasonable pullover or button down shirt, basically same way I'd dress up to play a nice golf course. I'm not one who believes in dressing up more than that except weddings and funerals.

I don't go to church on Sundays. However, the church up the street from my old house puts on a "making ends meet" dinner with with a sermon done by one of the pastors every Friday night that my Mom and I go to. We always get there early and volunteer to help out the crew that cooks the dinner and we stay after everyone else leaves and help with cleaning up the place.

I grew up in a church. Left for near 10-12 years. Returned 6 years ago because I felt a void I couldn't fill. Started working with the youth, middle and high school kids. I tell ya, they're face with way more difficult stuff than I was at that age. I hear ya about the high tech blitz going on now a days. I've seeing the same thing in our church. Thing I have to remember is that's "man" in charge of the money. They're not the one I'm there for.
I respect all that don't want religion pushed on you. I truely beleive in God and still cringe when I hear someone Bible thump'en others. I believe that, if I live my life right and God nudges you, we'll talk. But if not, or until He does, we'll still talk, just about other things and continue to build a friendship.
Thanks for the thread. You're all great people here.

Yes every Sunday I can go.
Why do I go? Primarily to learn and study. Secondly because I'm part of the multimedia staff and as such I run video cameras and the video feed board etc (our church actually uses the technology it has to spread the Word over TV). I don't know how much our church has in technology and frankly I don't care, it really makes it easier for the people who otherwise wouldn't see it or be there.

I go, most every sunday I'm in town..
I attend a small non denominational church, which believes that the promises laid out for us in the bible are available to the believer today, by the power of the holy spirit.
In other words, it's not just about salvation and eternal life, it's about healing, deliverance, prosperity and victory.

i dont go as much as i should and we have a pretty easy going church (lutheran) it usually last no more than 45 minutes on communion days and around 30 minutes on the others. only thing is im usualy fishin on sundays when the weather is decent and to me thats the greatest church to attend...nothing like being outdoors with all of gods creations appreaciating it all. ill have to vote for the ceo but i go more than that

I go every Sunday morning (twice) along with Sunday School, Sunday evening and Wed evening. Of course, I'm the pastor so I'd be missed if I didn't go! rotfl
I went just as often before I went into the ministry. I was ordained when I was about 39.
I was raised in church, fell away when I went into the Navy, and God brought me back to himself through my wife.

What a great thread, no flames!
I don't miss many Sunday services, but it hasn't always been that way. I was raised in church, saw the huge "hypocrisy" issue about the time I joined the Navy, and didn't want anything to do with those hypocrites.
Stayed away for about 10 years, then went back to work on my personal relationship with Christ; I now look at him, not the worshipers around me!
As long as the word being taught is solid Bible, it doesn't matter what the name of the church is or how the people dress.
God Bless All,
Tony

I would like to challenge everyone to listen to (if available in your area) to either a KLOVE or MOODY radio station for one week. Not just hear the words, but listen to them. When God made us, He created a God sized hole that only God can fill. No amount of anything else can fill it, only Him. I'm thankfull for all the honesty w/o hostility that you all have shared here. Archaologists are to this day, digging and uncovering more and more proof to support the bible's claims. With more than 10,000 pieces of manuscripts, it shadows the mere 300 ish of the works of Plato. In short, Jesus is alive and He is real, now what will you do with Him?

These are the people everyone should be concerned about. As is typical of groups like this, their influence is far out of proportion to their numbers;

Hey, did anyone take my one week challenge? Well, if you did, very good. If not, thats ok too. But, if you wanted to and couldn't find a station, why not try klove.com or wmbi.fm? And finally, if you want to talk to someone live with questions, try 888 - NEED HIM for an unbiased answer.

I attend church every week I attend mens bible study on monday and thursday evenings - we meet in a barn for one meeting and in a garage for the other. I sponsor a wednesday morning breakfast for men who have or would like to have a relastionship with Christ. The men in my groups are all guys who were not so good once upon a time. Or as one of my brothers says - "we were more like a lost ball in tall weeds". We all have all found Christ and it has turned our lives around. Our families are better for it as well. Our testimonies are heartfelt and freely given.
When I am not worshiping my Lord, serving his children through my ministires or serving my family - you will likely find me in my 3/4 ton cummins (Banks Stinger Plus) - or one of my harleys, or driving the vette. I am a crazy truck/bike/car guy like most of you. Praising my Lord and being his faithful servant comes first. And I still have lots of time to enjoy the toys in my garage.

On a more serious note, it's hard to go against your parents and teachers, striking off on your own with your philosophy, but it can be done. I did it and I grew up in a very small town in the Miss. Delta. You can't get much more religious than that area.
Because I was so young when I changed my views(15), I did not tell anyone except my parents until I got away from there. Although they tried to talk me back into religion, they were very understanding about it when I stood firm. And after almost fifty years I have not seen any evidence that would send me back to religion.
My belief is it's up to everyone to come to his or her conclusions about a supreme being. For me, as a famous mathematician once told Napoleon, "Sire I have no need of that hypothesis".

Unfortunatly, most people think that 'going to church' is about one religion or another. Or even one vs. another. Jesus never once said "follow this denomination" or "join this affiliation". He said ...follow Me...
All Christian denominations have their good points and their bad points, but when you take your eyes off of the One who offers you the free gift of salvation, meaning He took the punishment for our sins (one sin is enough to keep us from entering heaven), thats when the trouble starts.
Look, its not about religion with its flawed human embassadors, its a relationship with the one living God. Try this: www.notreligion.com (http://www.notreligion.com)

I attend Evansville (WI) Seventh Day adventist Church.
If you look on the calendar, you will see that the start of the week is Sunday, and thus, the Seventh day is Saturday.
This bit of trivia has not changed in recorded history, but still one of the popes made a decree that stated that all should worship on Sunday.
If you want more information, read the book titled THE NATIONAL SUNDAY LAW. It is a very good read!

Know most of the reasons for not going to church. Spent years being critical and using many of the escapes I have read today. When it was shown to me, in the Bible, that God is infinite, Loving and that my only salvation was through Jesus Christ life began to make since. Some organized religion confuses me.
Man, I tell you. I am just passing through with this physical body on my way to eternity in heaven or hell. When I read the fine print with mentors it was clear that the choice was mine alone. No excuses, read the instructions, follow the life giving program the best I can and I have assured my next future.
Yes, I go to church, support the widows and orphans, home missions, foreign missions, and study the Bible. My life and my family life is better because of it. Been there, done that, and I can assure anyone that ask, this new life, 20 years now, is simply a test for the future. Cooperate to graduate.

As a kid I to was raised a Baptist and attended chrristian schools from 3rd to 9th grade and the rest of schooling was public school by choice. I found that most of the other students in church schools are as big of phonies as they learn it from home . To be a christian means to be christ like and I don't recall christ going to too many churches except to clean house of the money changers. Also I believe in God and I feel thats a personal relationship between me and God. There isn't anything wrong in going to church if you can find one thats for real and not wanting to build a huge monatory place. The bible says, where 2 or 3 are gathered in His name He is there also, nothing said about a building. Sorry if I steped on anyones toes.
