In bed storage---truck bed
I'm not sure I want to know about other beds......
I just moved from an SUV to a pickup (shortbed) and am looking for in bed storage solutions. The Delta toolboxes are slightly tempting, but I'd like to keep the box under the bed rails and would definitely like to have some security on it. Creative, clever, low cost options are WELCOME. (cuz I'm a cheap bastid and they'll match my Jeep better )Let's see what you've got. There's got to be more than what's in this thread http://towrig.com/forums/showthread....ck+bed+storage These look like interesting concepts....... http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/o...ers/56439.aspx http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/200008324.htm Last edited by mbryson; 12-14-2005 at 12:31 PM. |

Well, I've got several options I swap out for various uses. There is a mini-truck diamond plate tool box that I use for spare axles, ratchet straps, and tools when on long wheeling trips. It sets in the bed near the cap and is rigged so that I can run a cable through it to secure to the bed tie downs and then lock from inside the box. I've got various sizes of amo boxes that can easily be modified for locks and they seal air tight. Also easily adapted to secure. And then I've got the "coffins" which are large RubberMade bins this latching lids. These hold our bags with cloths and stuff that's not too terribly heavy, but I don't want to get wet or dirty on the road. Those just get ratchet strapped in.

x2 on the rubbermaid "coffins".... I lived outta 2 of those in the back of a mazda mini-truck when I worked in TN for 3 months. Super cheap, mine had holes to put a padlock through, and they were plenty weather resistant. I drilled holes in the bottom of mine and bolted through wood blocks down to the bed so no one would jack them. They looked ghetto, but they survived Memphis and Nashville just fine.

I kicked around a lot of options and finally settled on a hard bed cover. I love it. I've been able to put all my dive and boating gear there for a vacation and not have to worry about theft. I've got one of the movable load dividers too, so shopping trips are easier (just fill up the space between the divider and tailgate). The cover is very versatile and has proven to work well even with oversize loads. It consists of four hinged panels and opens at the front and back. It's easy to open as many panels as you need, or just an end.
I got mine from aztrucks.com for just under $600. |
