I found out today that my lift pump is dying. Now I am going to have to take the truck in and have the damn thing replaced. At least I have a warranty still.

Why can't Dodge or Cummins pull there head out of there arse and fix this problem correctly. When this warranty is over I am going to have to get a FASS or something.

Watch out for their 'fix'. They are now putting an in-tank pump in that many question whether it is an improvement because the fuel pressure is in the 5-7psi range at idle instead of typically 12-24 with the stock location lift pump. Only reason I'd go to the dealer is if the VP was dying because of this..............which may now be on it's way out depending on how long you ran it with a dead LP. Do you have gauges? How did you determine it was 'dying'?

Relax a little, it could be the original one. Put a new one on and see how long this one lasts. You should get a considerable amount of mileage out of it. My original lift pump lasted about 100K, thats not bad IMHO.

Just make sure you make it clear to the dealer that you want a replacement pump in the same spot, not the in tank setup.

It shows lower pressure on the FP gauges from guy who have had it done. Dodge has been doing 'flow tests' to ascertain if the LP is bad instead of 'pressure tests'. I'll not debate flow vs pressure - anyone a fluid dynamics engineer?

Because his warranty would laugh at him if he asked for the FASS system instead and would probably still laugh if he said he would pay the difference. They just want to use a stock replacement.

Funny thing is the FASS 95gph pump is cheaper than the replacement. I talked to a guy who had a stock pump put on at the dealer out of warranty and paid like $600! I tlod him he got used and I would have sold him a FASS 95 for much less and install is so easy a monkey could do it (obviously, if I can anyone can!).

IIRC, when my service contract replaced my lift pump it was $400. I didn't care, I wasn't paying for it.

The problem is that service contracts do NOT want to mess with anything "performance." Anything that is not a stock style part is "inferior" and not worth the hassle to them. Yet, they love getting cheap aftermarket replacement parts if they can sneek it by you.

I just got back into town.

I have bought gauges but have not had time to do the install yet. I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge temporarily to see what my numbers were.

9 psi idle
2 psi wot

So the lift pump is not dead yet but is dying for sure. I am going to take the truck into the dealer and have them check it out along with my cruise control since I have an extended warranty. I would like to do the FASS eventually but right now I don't have any money to buy one and if I installed one they would try and say it would void the warranty should something happen to the VP which I really can't afford.

What are the pressure numbers for the new intank pump so I know what they should be? Thanks
