4" vs. 5" exhaust

I know this is a newbie question but is there a huge difference in egt's, performance, sound between 4 and 5 inch?

1.There will be little to no difference in EGT's under 600HP.

2. Performance will be about the same, some report that they feel a loss with 5", some don't. Personally, when I added my 5" system to my stock truck, I could feel a gain at the seat of my pants.

3. Big difference in sound. 5" is much deeper and boomier than 4". The best way I have come to describe the difference is 4" sounds like a B series Cummins with a performance 4" system, 5" on a B series sounds like an N14L without a muffler.

I have a 2005 dodge with the 5" monster exhaust, no difference in egt's until I was pulling a 35' stock trailer then they stayed much lower than the 4" that was on it (about 2-300* lower). The sound at idle is no different but when you put your foot in it sounds just like a freightliner, just be sure to put a muffler in otherwise you will get lots of hiway drone.

Thanks for the input, right now im straight pipe so it sounds like a bi-plane when im towing up hills. Getting tired of the raspy noise and high EGT's

Personally I prefer the sound of a Dual 4" kit than a 5" kit, IMO the 5" gets a bit of a drone at certain RPM

Got my 5" in and i love the sound, It does sound like a peterbuilt. EGT's are a bit lower but i havnt towed yet. I did feel a bit of a power increase, overall im happy with it!
