Trailer Brake Controller?

I have a 95 K1500, can I put a hydraulically conrolled brake controller that has the brake line that attaches to the master cylinder on it? Or does have to be the type that just wires into the truck?

I am sure you can. I have a 86 Chevy Crew cab dually with an old tekonsha with the brake line to the mc. Gonna change it to a newer one without it though. That is(from what i have been told) is probably how the controller senses is by hydraulic pressure.
