Since i'm selling my 4runner to buy a tow rig, i've been looking at tons of trucks for sale. I started out wanting to find an older ford gasser but I've decided that i like the '88 and up chevys better. They look much more updated than the older fords and are overall a "nicer" truck. I've also come to realize that in my 3000.00 and under price range that i could potentially pick up a 6.5L diesel in either a 2500 or 3500 truck. I guess my question(s) would be, are these good dependable...
I'm wanting something that gets better MPGs than my 6.0 but can't afford a big fancy new Duramax.

I would get either a 2500 Suburban or 2500 truck, '96 and newer, is there a year or years better than others?
Also what would be the top 5 mods within a $3K budget you would do to your 6.5TD to help with towing and MPGs?
The seller says its because of the injectors and not having a flash (or something) done to work with them. He said if you did the flash then the fuel milage would drop.
