My grandpa finally decided to get a new pickup since his '95 F250 PSD is getting a little rough at 336K.:D

He bought a 2007 F250 4x4 super crew LB. 6.0 PSD/Torque shift. It has the XLT package and is pretty basic.

Anyway.... I drove it for a while around town and out inthe country in our area. Things I liked and disliked...

    Interior:
The guage panel kind of sucks, it seems small and wheres the volt meter guage? The boost guage is nice but basically not needed on a stock truck.

Seats seemed to be fairly comfortable, but they were cloth so I obviously am not familiar with their leather seats (what I would order).

I HATE the throttle pedal. It seems like I have to shove it way down to get it to actually read. Any movement of the pedal downward on a Dodge pedal and the engine is gaining RPM's. The Ford had way too much "free play."

The dash layout seems a little on the bland side IMHO.

    Exterior:

I like the mirrors as they have decent visibility, but was wishing they were a little wider when in heavy traffic.

I LOVE that new front clip, that big chrome grille and new headlight design is really nice.

    Suspension:
Nice tight suspension, rides like a truck should with a firm yet rigid strait axle feel...perfect IMHO. Nice ride heigth too, no one has to ask if it's a 4x4 (yes GM guys, that was a poke at you...:D )

The weather was a slight drizzle....the posi rear works just fine...

Good handling, the steering felt very tight and feels good going down a windy road.

    Good brakes!

    Engine/trans: (the good stuff!)

Very dissapointed. I have driven a 6.0 back in 2004, but it had an 80HP chip in it. This '07 stocker feels like a dying dog to me. NO low end torque at all. Seemed like it had to rev to 2,500-3KRPM's before it really started to get some decent movement, as in average heavy traffic merging. I wasn't impressed with the variable vein turbo, my little HY35 on my ISB spools almost as fast.

The motor sounded good at 3,500RPM's or so, but the power just didn't really seem to be there. But it's the clear lack of low end 1,800RPM torque that bums me.

I can't say I was real impressed with the Torqueshift accelerating either. Shifts seemed a little sluggish and the converter felt offly sloppy (sloppy feeling could maybe be more from the lack of low end torque?). I also don't like the fact that there is no O/D button. I prefer to lock out overdrive in town. There is no "4" in the shifter pattern, just O/D and strait to "3".

Deaccelerating was different. In tow/haul mode I really liked the way it downshifted, pretty cool!

All in all I wasn't real impressed with the truck. It would be my third choice if I was going to buy a new truck.

x2 only the one i drove was an 05... same general feelings though the stock 6.0 feels really sluggish after being used to the cummins. im sure the 6.0 would be much better with some performance stuff done though... but yeah stock to stock i would take my dodge any day.

Did your Grand dad test drive the other two, or just straight to the 6.0?

well im happy for him, i had an 04 6.0 and didnt really feel the problems ur describing. mine had plenty of low end torque and was not mushy on the pedal. maybe they have done somethin to the newer ones that has altered the power? i dont know. but hey its all in what u as a person likes. but its definately nice to know if a truck is 4x4 with out havin to ask... :)

It's got the same power rating as the past year 6.0's. They just don't have the bottom end torque of the Dmax, and especially the Cummins by a long shot.

Runs good on top end though, for what it is.

it was idle problems, then every once in a while at start up, it would be coughing out thick white smoke. two injectors were replaced on it and it got better for a while but then just started acting up again. but my god that truck was so fast. it woulda beat the crap out of my cummins. and it got 20 mpg highway, and 16 towing....i shoulda just lived with the problems cuz everytime it was in the shop they gave me another powerstroke to drive. dodge dont do that. and im sure they woulda eventually fixed it, since i knew them all. :(

No shame in a Ford outrunning the Dodge. I know my '06 with the G56 transmission just runs out of revs. No business going that fast in a 1-ton pickup anyway. In 2 run-ins with Ford 6.0s, I have not found one that will keep up with my Ram from a stop or slow rolling start. Must be good shifting technique on my part, cuz losing boost between shifts...
