Body lifts are any easy and cheap way to lift your truck. Is there any "side affects" that I should know about before I make the decision to do a body lift to. I decided I'm going to park outside anyway and so I can basically go all out and do whatever on the lift. I was going to do a 4 or 5 inch lift and do a 2 or 3 inch body lift. I would be saving alot of money by doing a body lift to instead of doing a 7 or 8 inch suspension lift. Is there anything bad about body lifts?
Yes, they are not easy to install. On older trucks that live in nearly everywhere except for California, Arizona, and Texas.... they are completely fun, due to the fact most of the body bolts are likely rotten and frozen up. Body lifts are super ugly, I hate the body gap, and I hate seeing the frame under the body. Having a truck with a 6" suspension and 3" body myself, I now would have just left it at 6", or would have gone with an 8" kit if I was going to redo it. I may have the chance to get an '87 Chevy K30 crew cab that I plan to restore if I buy it. I already have an 8" Superlift kit picked out for it. NO body lift!!!
Yes, and it takes money to do things right. Like I already said, coming from someone with this type of experience, my next Chevy will have an 8" suspension lift instead of a 6"SL and 3" BL, even though it costs about twice as much to set up an 8" setup RIGHT than it does a 6" lift.
DONT DO A BODY LIFT!! they look horrible and if not done perfectly they can cause the body to turn on the frame so that the truck looks like it is going down the sideways. If you want to play you have to pay. If you really want to lift your truck (I dont know why) do it right and spend the cash on a good suspension lift. Besides...I make fun of people with body lifts and you live close to me...just something to think about
ive never heard anything good about body lifts except for them being cheap and you usually get what ya pay for when it comes to stuff like that
OK so no no on the body lifts then? Just curious.....so it sounds like i would be making a big mistake if i do a body lift. If you look at the details, there is a "platinum" series and those just have better coilovers. I am thinking of doing the 7" Class II because it is right there in the price range with the 5" lift prices and im getting 2" more of lift. Plus the 7" Class II Platinum is alot more money! Some prices I found: 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5" lift: Class II: $1,600 to $2,000 and Class I Platinum: $2,200 to $2,700 7" lift: Class II: $2,500 and Class II Platinum: $3,300 (Biggest I can find) http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/dodge4_94_01gas.htm
Sounds like a Skyjacker setup. The more expensive systems are going to have different rear springs possibly and likely are using heim joints on the trailing arms, which really jacks up the price.
Yep, I also priced the wheels and tires to go with the lift and im gonna end up spending near $4 grand. Pretty expensive!
Yep + the exhaust and stereo and headache rack/roll bar and all the other small crap and repairs ads on even more. Just remember Ive got 3 more years of High School to do this! waytogo
a buddy of mine a few years back bought anew f-350 and had that pretty tricked out nothing with the motor but everything else was pretty sweet, 8" lift 38" super swampers brush gaurd, stereo and all kinda of other stuff he spent 15k easy maybe more i always gave him crap about not doing the motor up and it being a ford but it was a sweet truck
Yep. This summer ive already easily got $5,000 planned into my dad's Denali. (He is paying for it though) HE WANTS ME to PIMP his ride! On my truck I would love to get a custom 3" offroad exhaust done And i will easily have $2 g in my stereo in my truck!
