I'm a new diesel owner, I have a '05 2500. I want to make it louder and was wondering if I cut the catalytic converter as well as the muffler out, put 4" stainless in place of those spots if I’m going to do any major problems to the truck?

Let me know what you guys think and if I should try something else that would work.

    Welcome!

No, you won't have any issues. Lots of guys do it. If its too loud let me know. MBRP recently released a kit that is a direct bolt in replacement for the stock muffler and mounts their muffler in its place. Also, they offer Cat delete pipes already bent properly.

Colorado has emissions testing, at least in the cities. Moved from there 7 years ago. I don't think they sniff the diesels, though. They will check visually for emissions components like cats. I moved to Oregon where they require emissions in certain cities. Actually, I only know of them checking in the Portland area. They've talked about smog checking in my area but I hope they stay out of here. Check before you do it, though, because it would seem like a pain to swap in your cat every year. I've heard of guys in other forums failing their visual inspections and having to get reinspected with OE equipment.

If I remember right, Colorado has a visual for diesels every other year so swapping it out once every 2 years wouldn't be that big of a deal, I bought my 06 in 05 so I guess I will find out for sure this summer.

I don't think we have an emissions test in Virginia, but I'm going to look that up before do anything to my exhaust.

I just did mine on my 06. All i did was go to the parts store buy a 10ft piece of pipe. I cut the cat out and the muffler off the tail pipe, used 104in of the 10ft pipe and now I have a full free flow 4in exhaust.
