Anyone know if there is a part time kit being developed ? I love my truck, but I hate the fulltime 4x4.....way too much drag. I could squeeze 22-23 MPG out of my '03 3500 2x4... Best I can get with the '07 3500 4x4 is about 16.1 MPG....
As far as I know,,it's fulltime. There are no locking hubs,,the front driveshaft and axles turn anytime the truck is moving. The transfer case has 4-Lo,,,2 High,,,4 High I have never jacked up the truck to see if the front drive is really "free" when in 2 high. I guess I could be mistaken when I say "fulltime 4x4" I guess if the front drive is turning then it must be creating drag.. The dynatrack kit converts the front axle to manual hubs waytogo waytogo I know that my blazer ( D60 front and 205 transfer case ) when the hubs are unlocked and it is in 2 high,,the front driveshaft and axles do not turn when the truck is moving.
if the transfercase shows a 2-high position then you have a prttime unit, a full time unit will have only 4-high,4-hi lock, 4-low, and 4-low lock. what you are probably running into is your automatic locking hubs arent releasing. better to swap those out for some manual lock hubs before you burn-up your t-case,axle, and ujoints
umm, no, his truck doesnt have locking hubs, or automatic hubs it has a axle shaft disconnect in the passanger tube last i looked. it disconnects one side form the carrier, thus th eother side just turns the spiders or driveshaft slowly when going down the road. it is "not engaged" to the transfercase as a solid lock when in 2wd.
either way his T-case is still engaged if he is spinning his front driveshaft in a 2hi position. (which it should not) somehow he needs to get the front driveline disconnected from power when he is in the 2hi mode or he will burn up his tcase. I have not seen a parttime t-case that will survive very long with the front driveline still spinning in 2hi this goes for old and current t-cases. if unsure check with other 4wd sites I'm sure they will confirm.
