i am looking to buy a truck for hot shotting and i found a 06 quad cab short bed SRW 3500 6 speed with the laramie package and every option just about, my only concern is that i will be towing a gooseneck with a 40' flat bed and so total length is around 48' i will going over the rocky's alot and and concerned that the 140" wheelbase might be to squarly with a big trailer and 15K pound load. what do you think i am getting 13K off the truck and also a exhaust brake from dodge put in before delivery and they said they would lower price even more if i really want it. so would it be worth the investment or should i just buy a long bed or even a dually for that matter?

I would opt for the dually with the payload you are talking about, with a 15k payload ,your are pushing the envelope, leave yourself a little room,I run a ram 3500 dually,6 speed,I gross about 17000-19000 but the truck has impressed me,I bought it new 04.5 24v.good luck:cool:

i mean also i know i could do a dually conversion down the road but in a few years i will be getting a new truck anyway. so i dont know and im going to have 13K in equity off the bat as i see it with what the final should look like.

spending $40k on what you need is way better then spending $25k on something that you will regret buying... just cuz its cheaper doesnt justify buying something that isnt gonna cut it.

Go for the dually. Also, something to keep in mind, if you plan to use a broker some brokers will not hire a truck with a shortbed. Something to think about.

The dually would be the right choice to go with. yes its more $$$, but the brokers i have spoke to all want newer 1 ton duallys in Texas. I am trying to do the same thing as well just got my 3500 a few months ago and a class A CDL , now i am working on the trailer part and accessories.

I'll second that on not wanting a short box. Lots of companies wont let you sign on it you have one. Also on the dually its a very good idea more weight and stabilty also.

Put a feeler thread out a few weeks back on my 35'+5' pop up...2006 PJ Trailer Manufacturing, tandem dual oil bath axles, storage box up front, spare tire/ wheel, never had any nails or screws into deck, pulls like a dream! Check out the thread "Let's see your set up" in this section.

Yeah I had a call to join in on hotshoting but my wife likes the stabily of my current job and I am on the rebound from owning my own shop so bills must be paid. Also I dont like the prospect of getting rid of my perfectly good 5.4 for a newer fire hazard 6.4..:doah:

I ran dually then thought I would try a 3500 srw, big mistake. 37,000 miles later I traded it on my current dually.
