I had a front wheel bearing go out on my truck and just found out I have to buy the whole assembly not just a bearing and seal and its going to cost $550.00 to have 1 installed guess I will be walking awhile, wow I couldnt believe the price.
They're not really hard to replace. Save the money and do it yourself. Of course you still have to buy the wheel bearing assembly. Oh, and get four new studs(to bolt on new assembly) from your dealer. Thats a lot easier that trying to remove your old ones. Get the yellow O-Ring as well.
Do you have to have any special tools to replace the hub assy?I have heard you have to have an air impact wrench to get the nuts loose. It looks like a snap ring holding in the center hubs?
You can use pliers to remove the snap ring. Depending on how long the kick-out has been in will determine how hard it will be to remove. Mine pulled right out. You might need to tap it with a hammer to remove it. But the previous owner had changed from the Auto/Lock to the free/lock hubs. As far as special tools I used am impact because I had one. It sure would make the job a lot easier. You might have to do sure persuading to remove the bearing assembly from the knuckle. If you have tools and are fairly mechanically inclined you can do it yourself and save a ton of money.
It's not to bad to do. Make sure you have metric sockets and about 4 hours. There is alot of parts to remove but it's not to difficult.
