Steering gear

    Looks like I need my steering gear replaced now, always something, shouldn't it last longer that 2 years? :doah:

    Welp, back to normal (fixed under warrenty), you would think it would last longer than 40,000 miles.

    What exactly did they replace?

    I'd say that one was defective. Mine is original with 166K+ on the clock, with oversized tires. KNOCK N WOOD! ;)

    I had to replace mine also. The sector shaft had about a 1/2 inch of up and down play. It would shake a little on sharp turns.
    I thought I was the only one with a new truck and crappy steering box.

    Must be premature failure. My son has 240K miles of heavy towing on his 06 and I have 82K miles on my 04, so far so good. Good that it was fixed under warranty.

    Yeah, it's impressive especially how hard he is on it. He did put in a full DTT tranny and TC at 170K miles along with an Edge Juice. Being a hot shot shot truck it is loaded all the time.

    I was told that they play can be taken out with just an adjustment, no need to replace it.

    The sector shaft was bent as well. I would imagine it was bent from the shaking.

    i have a 2004 with 105,000 had to replace the steering box
