I have recently been offered a job of hauling boats from TN-FL. What kind of trailer would I need to transport 3 small boats and trailers at a time? I was told i could modify a 3 car wedge to do the job but what do you all think?
Cant help with trailer insite, but I will be going to FL in febuary, my son has a basketball tourny and I would love to find something to hall down or back to help pay for trip.
i have seen wedge trailers outfited with a winch and a rail down the middle. the winch line runs down the middle of the rail that is a section of "C" chanel facing open end up. the chanel has a bar that has a trailer ball on it. line the boat trailer up, hook it to a ball winch it up, attach a section of cable and another trailer ball then winch up again and repeat. they have one like this to deliver small enclosed trailers here in town. no clue where to get one though...
you could build a couple of "trikes" that have hooks on them and wheels. then run a section of C chanel opening up for the center wheel to run in. it would keep the trailer usable for cars still and the trikes could be jack stands with wheels added and a trailer ball...
what are the load and unload facilities? you may be able to have the boats loaded with i fork lift and jjust set on with no need for a rail.
Google Kaufman trailers. I just priced out a 50' wedge w/ 3' flip out ramps on each end for a total of 56'. WITH the trailer hauling pkg, it priced out at $11340.00. I think it had 3 7K axles. You get straps included with it. hope this helps
What part of florida will you be hauling to. I have a buddy that manufactures boats and some times needs to move them North.
lol alot... with my 06 F350 DRW 16,520 lbs. the front of it has a sleeper built in. I would never sleep in it so its used for storage. its 10' long. I can get my 7' ramps in there very easy
Modifying for 'c' channel It would seem to me that you could simply bolt the c channel down the middle of the deck and fabricate some sort of bracket on the front of deck to mount a winch. You wouldn't need a huge winch, maybe only a 3K or so, after all, you're pulling it up the ramp, not lifting it out of the mud. As for what the 'slide' looks like, you're on your own on that one.
Although inexpensive, not the highest quality. I had one of there Wedge trailers and would not buy another.
I had to run down to DeKalb to retreive daughters car last nite, when I ran into a guy hauling cars based out to Bensonville Il. He said the same thing basically. He said the Kaufman was too heavy and that I should go with the Take 3. I would have guessed that with the mesh runners, it would have been lighter AND have less wind drag because of the mesh. Oh well, back to square 2. He also pointed out that on the E side of PA, there are at least 3 troopers that do nothing but look for 1-ton car haulers and check the logs, as well as registration, etc...
I know someone who got a ticket in PA for not having a permit to use flip outs. 1100.00, he also got a 800.00 ticket for not having his company name on the side of the truck. SO they made him put it on there with white shoe polish
there are two kauffman trailers... one out of NJ and one out of Kauffman Texas. they are not the same company. i have one from texas and have NOTHING but GREAT things to say about it. i hear otherwise from the NJ owners...
I have a 20' Kaufman solid deck car trailer, the NC one. Its ok but I would not use their 2 or 3 car hauler as I hear the gooseneck is known to crack at the welds. When I bought my trailer from them in 02 I went to their backwoods plant in NC, lol better take a gun with you if you go back there. they also used car tires on the trailer. http://www.kaufmantrailers.com/
here is the one out of texas... http://www.kaufmantrailersales.com/contact.htm like i said, nothing but good stuff from me and others that bought from them.
back then a 20' trailer solid center was 1400.00. I have people begging to buy mine. now its 2900.00 for one
see this is what i need my trailer to do.. this is on that other Kaufman site http://www.kaufmantrailersales.com/images/take3lopro.jpg
