Hey everyone, I'm looking at possibly buying my first diesel powered truck :D

It's a 1999 F350 Crew Cab short bed 4x4 single wheel. It appears to be all stock and in very good condition. Powerstroke 7.3 with an automatic transmission and 166,000 miles. Black exterior with tan leather interior. No goose neck or fifth wheel hitch.

He is askig $15,995 for it. One thing to also consider is that he will give me a decent trade-in for my '96 Suburban, which saves me the time and hassle of trying to sell it.

    Is the asking price ok?

Are there any problem areas I should pay special attention to

Here is a pic of the truck:

Just check for any noticeable oils leaks. I have an 01 7.3 with 210k on the clock and have had to fix the tranny twice and the cam position senosr. They are very reliable trucks.

Thanks for the reply. I clicked on the CARFAX teaser link on the dealer's listing and this truck has 21 "records", but I need to pay $$$ to see any details. I'm guessing the dealer has an unlimited monthly subscription, so I'll ask him to print a copy for me. Hopefully my 21 "records" indicate only a few title changes and excellent maintenance records. :pimp:

i just paid $14,600 (after tax) for the truck on my sig. with similar mileage. definitely test drive the truck and probably plan on putting some money into it (specifically the transmission).

I see 2 major problems...the visor and the running board things. Other than that you can't go wrong with a 7.3 (other than the whole FORD thing)

I'd spend the money and look it up on carfax myself, 21 items seems high to me. If the trans is original, probably should start saving for a trans rebuild down the road. Good Luck!

I agree with the carfax statement; I had zero items on mine. And I definitely agree that some $ will likely need to be spent in the near future on the transmission.

take it a good ford diesel tech and pay the 1 hour check out feeto have it looked at!!! then you know what needs to be done before and after purchase, its easy.....if the truck is mechanicaly sound then jump all over it.....always change the fluids on a used truck(all fluids) unless it was allready done......let us know how it goes!!!
