Dodges are cool.... Now get to postin' why you like your Dodge and/or why you chose Dodge. Don't be afraid to mention your favorite thing Dodge has as a feature or what sets it apart from the "other"guys. I actually copied this post from the Ford Diesel Engine Rigs forum and changed the Ford to Dodge. I was originally posted by "RJF's Red Cummins". Hope you dont mind me using your idea in this forum I personally like the Dodge but i like the Ford better , well, lets hear what you guys have to say bout dem Dodges.
1. The most obvious thing, best motor available for all the right reasons. opcorn: 2. In theory the best transmission available, but dosn't matter a whole lot because the Ford manual was basically a problem free and unbreakable unit too. 3. By far the best mirrors ever made, The guy that came up with the flip out towing mirrors is probably sitting on some tropical beach eating grapes out of some island girl's belly button right now.... 4. The sport front end. I'm a very visual type person and spend more time than the average person ( I think anyway) on visual stuff. I love the match painted front end that is available from the factory, saves a lot of money and time having a shop do it. 5. The whole freakin drivetrain. No odd ball D50's or finiky IFS anywhere, just good 'ol 60's up front and a D70/80 in the rear. A good "ran through the mill" t-case in all models. 6. Good suspenion, I think it rides better than the Ford leafs and those big azz coils up front just look cool.... 7. The SEATS!!!! I love the late 2nd gen one piece high back seats, VERY comfortable and they look really sleek and sexy when wrapped with the tan and exspecially the black leather. imp: Plus, I think the embroydered Ram head in the head rest was a nice touch. The office center concol was a good idea too, that thing is handy. I've also notcied that the Dodge leather is a thicker, tougher material over the GM's. My dad's burb has a thinner leather and had to have a new leather cover installed because the old tore around 100K. I've got 117K and my seats look brand new. I will say the GM leather is a little softer, probably due to the thinner material. Things I don't like.... 1. The lack of a real crew cab, the 3rd gens have a fine CC IMHO, but the quad cab is a little small. I believe the deal behind Dodge's problem with the back seats over the years is due to their body design. A long rear cab just makes the truck too long with the angle of their body lines. The new Mega Cab is a perfect example, not long bed available. But, it's a two way street, I like my quad cab because it makes the wheelbase a little shorter. Plus, I hardly ever have more than 2 people in my truck at once anyway, and when I do I'm always driving and I'm not the one in the back. rotfl 2. The stock track bar, poor design when it wears. 3. The lack of a 5 spd auto so far. 4. The VP44 should have been designed a little stouter.
where to start... 1- i agree that the cummins is the best motor (however i am a little biased) 2- i like how my stock 4x4 is as high as a leveled 2500HD w/ 35's imp: 3- the tow mirrors are the best ive ever used 4- the short wheelbase is nice when trying to turn around quick or park in a tight spot. 5- in my opinion the best sounding of the 3 trucks (especially w/o a muffler) waytogo however, i will say that none of the 3 trucks are all that bad. in my opinion they are all awesome trucks and i would be happy to drive any of them... its all just a matter of what you like i guess.
waytogo on 3 and 4. without a muffer id swear a big rig was on the side of me. dem cummins do sound sweet strait piped
why i like the dodge i'll have to agree with everything already posted. for the record i am a hot shot driver and i have hauled with all the big three. i have only had one ford(00 7.3 which wasnt that bad), an 05 dmax which sucked, and i currently have an 01 3/4 ton dodge 4x4 5 speed, an 04 cc 2wd dually 6 speed, and an 05 cc 2wd dually 6 speed. of the 3 dodges i currently have the 01 is my favorite because i am a little partial to 4x4's and i like the body style better than the other 2. asfar as towing goes the two one tons leave ford and chevy wishing and wanting in the long haul and grade pulling department....and they are unbombed except the 04 has an mbrp exhaust and afe stage 2 intake. the only oddball thing i like about the dodge that no one has mentioned (possibly because no one likes it) is how they shake when you shut them off. Then new peterson diesel mag complained about it in one of their last issues saying it was harsh and unrefined going back to its big truck roots. In my opinon thats why dodge has a large cummins following because of the long history cummins has in thebig truck industry. dodge and cummins both know we like these motors because of the big truck roots they have and also for the fact that dodge and cummins are more interested in performance and reliability than they are in aesthetics noise level. to be honest the only thing i dont like about my 05 dodge is how quiet it is...for now. But hey what do i know about this stuff im just a driver
I too am drive hot shot and have driven all three,....leaving the Ford and Chevy's wanting and wishing in the long haul and grade pulling department, get real!!! rotfl
owning two 1st gen dodges(which are #'s 13 and 14 that i've owned(all 93 or earlier)) i just love the square front ends. i've had 440's,360's and even a slant six, but when they added the cummins i died and went to heaven . then they went and changed the body in 94 and made it cool to be a dodge boy. now i'm not the only one pulling up in a dodge.nice having help against the furd(dad included) and cheby guys
Mine has never been back to the dealer since I bought it. It drags our heavy 5th wheel up 6% grades at 70 MPH in 6th gear. It's noisy, smokey, generally uncivilized and unbreakable. I wouldn't have it any other way! Rusty
My Dodge has 154,000 on it and has only needed two sensors and a LP. Gets 20mpg on the hwy at 65mph and 11 towing at 65mph. Close to 21,000lbs conbined. Since many of the same people here are reponsive to other posts on this site, I can add to another post hear. There are many 95, 96, 97 model Dodge Trucks that have been delivering RV's from Indiana that have more than 1 million miles on them. I had a 7.3 before my cummins. The 7.3 was a good engine, but it ran dirty. The oil was black 200 miles after change. The cummins will run 3000 miles and the oil is still clean on the dip stick. To me, thats all I needed to see with my ole 96. It now has 263k on it. My son said he keeping it for 10 years, he's had it since 2000. Best truck I ever owned. Run from New Orleans to Melbourne Fl without stopping for fuel. (33gallons) Dave Dave
It's still running after 15 years and has never had a wrench inside the motor, still pulls my Fifthwheel anywhere in the country, still putting out 300+HP,still running, still running. How many 92 Fords or 92 Chev rotfl diesels can say that? And did I mention still running?:stir:
Actually, I can say, a huge number fords from '92 and even the previous 6.9, not as many chevys, but still there are a few out there.
I agree. There are a lot of older Fords (diesel and gas) still running around my area. There are few more older GM's (mostly gas, but some diesel) here than Fords, but not many. waytogo
All three seem to be lasting a very long time. Tons of 300+K and 400+K Dodges on the forums and my grandfather has a '95PSD with over 300K, and still has the original transmission(auto).
