I really like the new truck but not knowing anything about a Dodge I wanted to get some questions answered. What are the torque/horse power numbers on the CTD? Fuel milage, and they come with a 4 speed auto or 6 speed manual, which one is better? I would like to get the stick unless there is something wrong with it. Also whats the maintanance like? expensive. TIA

    HP/TQ: 325/610
    MPG: varies 15-20+mpg
Trans:I have the 4spd auto, wanted the Manual, both are good, esp if vehicle left stock
Maintenance: 7500 mile Oil Changes, nothing peculiar or dramitically different than any other Diesel.

The automatic is better IMHO, with a diesel due to the better acceleration over the manual. Mileage vairies greatly from truck to truck.

Maintance is easy, change the oil at 15,000miles with not towing and a moderate amount of heat cycles, or 7500 with towing and short trips.

i think the fuel mileage depends more on the driver and the driving conditions than the truck itself... if you drive with your foot on the floor you'll get like 10 mpg but if you drive like a grandma you will get much better. on the open freeway, i get around 20mpg in my '05.

Not much I could add that hasn't been said exept that if you prefer a stick then get it. All of my vehicles are manuals and I wouldn't have it any other way. Everytime I drive mine I tell myself I'm glad I didn't get an auto. As for the auto's accelerating better, they might but I more than keep up with traffic so unless you are drag racing it isn't really a concern. Put a stronger clutch in it and you could launch pretty hard in third and I'm sure that would help the acceleration as well. The manual's are known to have always been more durable but they I've heard that the newer auto's are alot better than the old ones. It just seems to me that if you have a manual it is one less thing to worry about.

I have tha 4 speed and love it. I don't like shifting all the time due to the fact I have a manual in my K5 and the auto is just plain simplewaytogo

So far I have 8k miles on my 2500 QC CTD and average 15 city and Highway:confused:

Most of my driving is on Nellis AFB where I live and is less than 25 MPH with like maybe 5 stop signs between home and work. I take trips to Utah about once a month averaging 80 MPH and 15 MPG.

The mega cabs are super cool and I love the massive looks of them. If I had a chance to get one I would have.

As for maintanance cost, so far I have only had one oil change at the cost of $42 here on base. Not bad considering that is what a gas engine would cost for 2 oil changes in the same mileage intervals.

    Good luck on your decision;)

i get about 20 to 21 on the freeway at 70. about 17 in town when im nice to it. i got the 6 speed and love it. yeah, im a tad slower than the autos off the line, but its worth it to me. i beat the ever living piss out of my dodge... it keeps asking for more.

as for the mega cab... nice... but not MY style. i hate having people behind me and since i plan to keep it no kids the back seats are coming out soon.

i advise the towing mirrors and exhaust brake BIG time.

The megacabs have cute little beds on them.rotfl I would say go with the 6 speed, but I don't know about the manual trans that they're putting in the Dodges these days. If they worked the problems out then definately go that way, unless you plan on playing Johnny Racer-Boy with your tow rig. I would never trade my manual trans for an auto.

umm.. i have the same size bed as a mega cab...

    just a bit of info...

the long box standard cab is the same length and wheel base as a short box quad cab. why is this important? to you it might not be but to me it is. i need a truck that particular length. the bad side for me is i also need a dually. so i will have to flat bed or wait for the new dualy short box mega cab bed to come out.

another thing to take into considderation if you are worried about being able to tow more then a quad cab is rated for a higher CGWR but weighs more.. basicaly it is offset.

I know it's the same size bed, it just looks ridiculous because the cab is so long. Looks like an overgrown Explorer Sport-trac. From whats I understand, the Megacab is the same WB as a longbed QuadCab, and they extended the cab the difference between the shortbed and long bed to make up the difference. I understand why they did it, but that doesn't make the shortbed truck look any less silly to me. 4 door trucks with short beds just look funny to me, that's just my opinion. The MegaCab has such a long cab that it looks even stranger than usual. If they made a MegaCab with a long bed then I would totally want one so long as it didn't have as low of a GVWR as the current one. 10,500 lbs on a truck that probably weighs 8500lbs is pretty low.

I agree, the short bed with the old school flat fenders looks stupid....that must be a Jeep thing and I don't understand, with the flatfender thing and all.....:stir:

THe cab is nice, but too long IMHO. with a long bed the truck will simply be too long for my taste, and would be too hard to maneuvor around in some of the already tight parking lots. THe short bed looks silly.

I love the 6-spd in my 05. I know in 05 there were two 6-spd's HD and non-HD. In the HD, Reverse is to the right and up and in the non HD it is to the left and up.
In my dually I can get 18 mpg if I am really off of it and shift at 1600 rpm.
I regularly get 14 mpg hauling across country with 6-7Klbs trailer
Never liked auto's but I hear they are getting better.
