I need some measurements. I am going to take my trailer with 16' deck, and add a 2' dovetail. I am going to move the axles back 18-24". What I need are dimensions from some other trailers to make sure I achieve the proper balance. I would appreciate if you could give me these measurements: 1. length of flat part of deck and dovetail 2. distance from coupler to front edge of deck 3. distance from coupler to center of axles 4. spacing of axles (center to center of axles) Thanks in advance!
Ok. On this trailer- Deck= 18' Dovetail= 2' Overall= 20' Coupler to front edge= 44" Coupler to center of two axles= 188" Front edge of trailer to center of two axles= 12' Axle center to center= 3'
I'd bet my measurements wouldn't be too far off of those above... it's late tonight but mine is pretty close to that one. how much drop is your dovetail from flush with the deck? Mine's really extreme (hangs down too low to the ground and rubs the street on driveway cuts). Has only caused problems on one car though and strangely enough it had more clearance than a couple others I've put up it.
The best way to determine axle placement is to calculate it for your trailer and anticipated load. Dexter Axle publishes good guidelines for axle installation. Here is a link to their applications manual. See page 7 for axle placement. http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1080235/f/Appl_Manual_4-04.pdf Good luck, Steve
1. length of flat part of deck and dovetail --- 17' 6" and 36" 2. distance from coupler to front edge of deck --- 40" 3. distance from coupler to center of axles --- 15' 2" 4. spacing of axles (center to center of axles) --- 34"
