The GM 6.0 and 8.1 motors are good running motors.

I think the new Dodge Hemi is getting close just not there yet

    Fords ??? where are they

Ford with the Triton V-10. That motor tows great, and gets suprisingly good fuel economy.

Have no experience with an 8.1, but do with the 6.0 and wasnt impressed with it when it had a load behind it. The Hemi, i hate that motor, i wish they had kept the 8.0's for an option. Talk about an over rated, over hyped motor. Its a small block, and it tows like a small block.

I've heard the 6.0 is a fast little critter, I've also heard the 8.1L disapointed a lot of folks.

I've driven a 1/2 ton 2wd Hemi Ram and was dissapointed. My 1985 K5 blazer with a 406SBC and big heavy bias ply tires could woop on a hemi.

I'll probably hear it on this one but I like the 8.0L V10 from the 2nd gen Dodges. It sucks gas like crazy but my buddies '97 is fast.

362hp and 455 lb ft tq out of the 05 V10 from Ford :D I think thatll be more than enough motivation for an Xcab SWB F250. With that much power its gotta be a contender in the large gas motor segment.

Buddy of mine with 8.1/Allison dislikes his. 8.1 knocks like crazy in the morning, burns a quart every 1000 miles and the Allison pukes ATF all over his trailer when towing.

The 6.0 is a great motor once you get rid of the Torque Management bulllllllllcrap.

I think gm has always had the best gassers. Power wise and gas mileage, I dont think you can beat em. I think the 8.1 is great, the dodge V10 was ok, but not to impressed with the Ford V10. Does ok, but I thought they'd have more power than they do.

The GM gassers are the best IMO. The small blocks are beasts!waytogo Heck, even my 5.3 is a monster, it will smoke a 5.4 Ford, even the new 300HP ones, and all it has on is a Flowmaster exhaust. The 6.0 are quick, my uncles truck has one and it is awesome. I don't have any experience with the 8.1.
The Dodge V-10's in the 1994-2001's are pretty good as well. I've driven one and was really impressed. However, the new Hemis suck. Fast...yes...good for towing...no. I bet my 5.3 can tow better. The Hemi just ain't a tow rig motor.
Ford even makes a gas motor?rotfl :stir:

I would only consider a 6.0 GM I have towed with them and they will pull a hill faster than my buddies 01 cummins. you have to rev them up but that is what they are designed for. I know a guy that has towed over 10k lbs with chevy 15 pass vans with both the 6.0 and 8.1. He says he now prefers the 6.0 because it pulls just as well, only at a higher RPM. It also uses much less fuel. My friend has a 2004 2500LD w/ the 6.0 and 3.73s and he gets 18mpg unloaded at 80mph...I know b/c i've driven it on a 200mi trip. Try to do that with your Hemi or V-10:stir: waytogo Oh yeah and dont forget its only a SMALL BLOCK!!rotfl

well, I have owned a ford v10 with 4.30 rear end. It was sweet. The v10 with the 4.30 rear ratio, will pull just as hard as a diesel, but not as good, but you better believe it will get the job done. Ive hred that the gm 8.1 uses too muck oil and has had growing pains. My neighbor has the gm 6.0 in his dually, I ve been in it several times and I cant say anything bad about it.

IMO, the ford v10 is the best and most reliable gas motor available in the pickups. Its also used in agricultural applications.
