I am trying to replace my left front axle seal and can't get it started in the axle. It's a dana 60. I found a tool on the web for 179.00. Has anyone replace their seal? Any tricks to getting the new one in?

you have the whole front end apart and the carrier and ring gear out of the axle correct?
find a socket that fits the seal outer diamter.
gt a long tube(jack hanfdle, peice of ppipe, long extensions..........
have someone line up the seal with the socket on it and hold your pipe up to the socket. have someone at the wheel(where th eend of the pipe is) hit the pipe with hammer till it goes in completly.....
