Has anything been done suspention wise to the Excursion?The second attempt didnt look all that bad to me but I dont have as much experince hauling vehicles as some of the others.
You should figure out the weight of the jeep, and then the total weight of the trailer and jeep. Then put about 10-15% on the tongue. You can do this at a truck scale, a rock place, or with a bathroom scale and a little math. I remember seeing something online somewhere about using a fulcrum to measure weight with a bathroom scale, but we took our trailers to a rock yard and they let us use their scale.
second attempt looks pretty close... not a whole lot of difference can be seen in the pics though. I don't think I've ever managed to put a car on the trailer in the same place twice. Don't those Excursions have a 4-link rear? Might be a little different as far as sag/ride than judging by the truck counterparts. Best suggestion anyone can give ya is to take it out and drive it around for a bit. Be sure and go over some speed bumps and dips, entrance and exit cutouts. Get a feel for how its going to ride--don't just base it on the "look" of things. If the truck seems light on the steering, move the load back. If bumps/dips are a little hard, move it back. If the trailer feels like it's pulling you around, put more weight on the front. You'll learn from experience where you like driving it the best. Remember that a muddy jeep weighs more than a clean one, a rolled jeep has a lower center of gravity, etc. and adjust the weight accordingly.

Once you have found the right spot for parking the Jeep on the trailer, mark where your tires rest before you take it off. Then next time you should be able to pull it up with ease and confidencewaytogo I have found that it makes all the difference in the world if your rig is not just right on the trailer.
Thanks for all the replies. I bought a Equalizer WDH just for peace of mind. I am in the process of setting it up and post some pics. Thanks but dont let the pic fool you. I beat the piss out of that Jeep. I am a cautious driver. It is built for go not for show.
