Going to pick up a 'new to me' 2004 Chevy 2500 4x4 crew cab. 109K on the truck. Duramax/Allison combo. So never having a diesel before do I need to know? The truck and towing thing have been done for many years/miles, so I'm okay with the towing/traveling aspects but want to start off on the right foot with my new diesel. Appreciate the input.
Change the oil as needed, I'd go 7-10K with normal conditions on Petroleum oil. Up to 25K with a premium synthetic. Drive it and enjoy it.
Thanks, Nothing really so different then? Take care of them and they'll take care of you kinda thing. Didn't get the 04, found an 01 I liked better when I got down there and walked the lot. waytogo The 04 seemed 'quieter' than the 01, does that sound right?
The 2004 is the LLY engine, and yes is quieter than the earlier LB7. That '01 is a better truck anyway, better motor, not as quiet (unless you are into that quiet engine sillyness), and the front clip on the '01-02 is the best GM ever produced.
Congrats on your new truck. Id go through and change all the filters (oil, fuel, air) as soon as you get it home. Doing the tranny filter wouldnt hurt either. The Dmax Alli combo is one of the best, so it should be a great truck for you.
Yep, doing it all tonight after work. (tranny too) RJF, I totally agree with ya, I don't care for the new front ends either. Drove around enough for work today (contractor) that in the old truck (72 big block) would of burned half a tank already but the diesel's still reads full! Thanks for the input guys.
