I took my Dodge in for some warranty work at Chapman Dodge here in Las Vegas, when I went to pick it up yesterday they informed me that it was broken into. I had it there over the weekend waiting on parts for a few problems. The DVD player, Stereo head unit, DVD's and AMP were stolen. Totaled to about $2K!!!

They said another vehicle was broken into and robbed too. At first they said they would pay my insurance deductable, after I talked to a lawyer here on base they informed me they were responsible. So now I have to battle with them to get paid for all the **** that was stolen. The thing is there was no sign of forced entry.

I am thinking someone who worked there left the truck unlocked and gave there buddy a heads up. Whoever stole the stuff had taken there time and cleanly removed everything, no cut wires all the screws were removed and laid neatly on the floor:confused:

Let's hope these guys don't try to drag this out and stiff me on what is owed:mad:

    1. Properly thank the fellow that stole all of your stuff in your head because he didn't rip the truck up to get everything. You are lucky there.

    2. Yes, They should be responsible.

    3. You are probably right, it was an "inside" job. No offence, but you made a big mistake letting the truck winde up there all weekend. I always have scheduled for a Monday or Tuesday and once when they couldn't figure out my A/C trouble, I told them I would be there promptly that Friday afternoon and will have the truck back to them on Monday for them to continue.

I treat anyone that I don't know that will be messing with my truck in any way as low down rotten thieves, not to their face but in my head and don't give them an ounce of trust. It's sad really.

Stay by your guns man and don't let them "lets use YOUR insurance and we will pay the deductable" garbage! Why? A. because it's their responsibility anyway and B. YOU will eventually pay for it anyway through higher premiums if you let them do that.

This is very unfortunate, I bet you feel really mad, violated, and dooped since it just REEKS of an inside job. I've been there man, and it leaves such a nasty unsettling feeling in your gut. Don't back down on that dealership!!!

For some people, I could care less when this stuff happens to them because they have a ton of money and no appreciation for what they own anyway, but I know you are different, and appreciate what you have. I'm sorry to hear about this.

One of the dealerships I used to work at had that same thing happen once (in the 10 years I worked there). One of the kids working the lube rack would take note of customer's addresses and hit their cars a few days later. The dealership SHOULD be responsible for the whole deal, but if you read the fine print, it probably says somewhere that they are not responsible for lost or stolen items. CYA.

Well I just talked to the manager of the dealership and they are reimbursing me just over $1700. Luckily I kept the receipts for everything. The only thing I am out is the price for the DVD install, don't have a receipt and the DVD's. When I signed the form to drop the truck off they said they were not responsible for articles left in the truck, so I can swallow that one.

They are paying me for the price of the installation I paid for the AMP and head unit. The good thing is the thief disconnected everything, so all I have to do is re connect the new products when I buy them. There will be enough left over to pay and have my DVD player re installed.

I wrote them a letter stating all the prices including tax and extended warranty plans along with faxed copies of all my receipts. They are paying for all that and they didn't charge me for the speedometer adjustment for the 35" tires and the debris that was in my HVAC fan.

When I get the check at the end of the week I will feel better about it. It still sours me a bit that they didn't offer me up front to pay for all of it. I had to basically tell them they were going to and raise a stink.

On a better note I will be getting an Alpine head unit this time instead of the Sony, something I wish I had done after I bought it.....

Luckily the fine print said articles left in the vehicle, since these were bolted in they are held liable:pimp:

I am out the $300 worth of DVD's that were stolen due to this fine print though......

I agree that someone at your dealer scoped out what you had. And he's a pro because he didn't have to tear up your truck. The dealer is liable, despite their fine print BS. They took possetion of the truck. It happened while in their possetion. Your insurance comapny should be dealing with them. Just my thoughts...

I ended up with a $188 Walmart one that has 2 screens and a video game system. I am sick of my vehicles getting robbed so I opted for this portable system. Besides the fact it doesn't have that professional bling bling look, this unit is better overall IMOwaytogo

So how's the quality of that one? Do the screens just slip over the headrests or what?
I need something to keep the baby occupied on a few 600 miles trips :doah:

They have straps that go around the head rests. They also sell a single screen version. We attach the main unit to the center console (folded down) and flip the screen up for my daughter. I think this way would be the best method for you. Anyways, the straps are a little too far a part for the head rest so I used some tiny bunjee cords to pull them together. The video quality is suprisingly good. I really don't notice a diff between the sony one I had. The best part is when we aren't taking long trips I put the whole kit under the rear seatwaytogo
