views on cat or no cat for towing will my egt go down if I remove it or try and brake it out runing a mbrp muffler now it helped but in the rockys where I live and pullen a big a## horse trailer I am worried about high temps can push it past 1200 F real easy. thanks "go easy"
Send that sucker to the pound! I dropped mine out after about 1200 miles (long enough to get it home). Never have missed it, and never did like cats (furry ones either).
when i first got my exhaust done, i had a muffler shop cut out the muffler and replace it w/ just a pipe (leaving the cat alone). with that setup, it was really really loud and annoying when cruising on the freeway at 70+ mph so... i put on a flowmaster 50series delta flow and had them remove the cat at the same time. with the current setup, the tone is much more mellow in the cab and the egt's stay lower... also it feels just a touch more responsive at low throttle. conclusion... definitley remove the cat.
That information would be helpful to me also. I am pulling my trailer up and down the "little mountains" in East Tn. Thanks for the question Horseman!
Nice looking rig ya got there. Bottom line is after the turbo you want as little restriction as possible, within reason. Now, thats not to say you can't open the exhasut too much. Too large of an exhaust causes the speed of the air going out to drop and the air to cool. The cooler the air, the harder it is to flow through a pipe. So, you have to find the happy medium between temp and flow. For most people, a 4" is perfect. The cat disturbs flow, so junk it. For optimum performance, it is a hinderance. Wow, i was a poet and didn't know it!
Nice rig you got there gunsmoke you need to pull it over the rockys and ride a little .I hope we get a little more talk on this thread it will help a lot of folks that pull large loads. mine ie a farm truck and is regesterd that way so I am ok but I would like to hear if any one has had any warrinty problems. thanks horseman
