i know diesels can have some injector problems. i recently bought a 01 duramax and it came with a 6 month 6500 mile warranty. i want to know if there are any signs that the injectors are failing so that i can take advange of the waranty before it runs out. mine makes a small sound from the motor i hear it when im next to a sound barrier or a parked car. Sounds almost like a ticking sound but there no repetion to it so i figure its not internal.

The best thing to do is take it to another GM dealer and have them inspect it. They will charge around two hours of labor so for a hundred or so bucks you will get a full report, pretty cheap insurance just to be sure. On the LB7's the injectors are very hard to get to and if one has to be replaced all 8 of them have to be replaced, so just that alone will far out wiegh the cost of a inspection, and they could find more.

How many miles on the truck. The 01 and 02 LB7 have a 200,000 mile injector warranty. Some signs though are low oil pressure, and loss of power. One thing you can do is pull out the dip stick and drip some oil on a piece of napkin. If thier is diesel in the oil, it will dispearse from the oil on the napkin.

Well if there are no power upgrades, you may be just unlucky and have a tranny going bad. I have an 02 with 130,000 and have had a 60 horse chip since the truck was new and have had no problems so........I think your trannys just going bad. Thats unusual though, the Allison is a pretty stout tranny and shouldnt do that. You may have to do an uprgrade eventually.

Antoher thing to look for is if your rig smokes at all just cruzing down the hwy. They all smoke when you get on it but if you see smoke just cruzing then chances are you have an injector that is sticking open.
A good diesel additive like Stanadyne will clean the injectors. Some folks run this with everytankfull.
