well, the lift pump gave up the ghost, loss of power, and leaking about a pint a minute out the bellhousing about 1:15 from home. even had to put on the wheellift adaptors because with the IC i can't grab the frame rails, and i dont trust forking the I beams with that much weight, since they slide easy on them. my axle caps came in handy, works way better than the coffee cups i normally shove over the spindles.
I believe its setup for just the purpose of towing. Its common practice to pull the axle shafts out of bigger trucks and replace the shafts with either plastic caps or in this case cut down axle shafts, this way the oil doesnt get slung out all over the wheel, and you dont have to worry about any ill effects on the transmission from towing them.
yep, works great, and since ford uses a o ring thats in a groove on the shaft theres no slicone to mess with and it doesnt leak. take 8 bolts out, pry the shaft out, sling the cap in plkace, and bolt it down with two bolts and you hardly loose any gear lube. i normally take the driveshafts out, but these year fords, ford used torx head bolts that you need the suspension at full droop to get clearence to get a quality socket in. ya, towing in nuetral will screw up a manual or auto trans bad....... only trans i will tow even short distances in N would be chevy 400's. and thats less than 10 miles..... i will always tow it from the back if i can(this includes pickups, semi's, and straight trucks) most truck manuals you can get away towing in N if the truck is running. thats why i picked up my dually from the rear sat night when i tok the truck back to the shop so i would have a ride home
my local stomping ground, the cliffs insane terrain... the owners know me well, and where shaking there heads when they saw me pull back in later with that wrecker.
