Im looking for a 94-98 ctd. I know nothing about these trucks really but want to get into the diesel world. How rare is a ext cab short box with a manual? is it in existance? I got a max of 12G to spend but just wanna see what is out there. What are your guys suggestions? I need a tow rig for my toy! Thanks in advance
You are looking for the most commonly searched for truck on the market. You will find them in different levels of condition, and I don't think 12K will make it too far with a 96 or newer truck in great shape. Expect to pay about 15-17 if the owner has taken good care of it and knows what he has. Not saying it can't be done, just that its hard to find something for that price not beat to hell.
thanks! really appreciate it! Im currently in tech school and im really debating if i can make payments on something a little bit newer. i dont want to graduate, get a crappy job and not be able to make payments. but i dont know... What do you suggest?
I would continue to accumulate cash and wait for theright deal to come along. If you aren't in a rush then you can find a great deal on the right truck, it just takes time. Nice thing about cash, it tends to help the final price drop a bit!
If i can, i wanna find the perfect deal on an extended cab shortbox with the manual tranny. then a few years down the road, start some modifications... thanks again for the help... im sure i will have many questions down the line
I concurr... $12k @ 8% for 4 years (you wont get more than 48 mos on a 10-12 year old truck) is ~$293/mo. You should set aside $300/mo each month into a savings account. This will do 2 things: 1) Positively show you whether or not you really can afford it 2) Accumulate cash to use to make a larger down payment. Say it takes you 6 months to find the right truck... .that means you'll have an additional $1800 to put down on the truck, which will either allow you to have a lower payment, or afford more truck for the same payment. That said, I'll keep an eye out for a truck for ya. Mike
thats good advice and welcome to the board!! Another good piece of advice that I recieved was not to make an emotional purchase. Make sure you know what you want and dont take the first one that comes around just b/c you want it so bad. Make sure that it is really the best choice...I.E. Dont buy a beater just cause you want a truck
MT just were do you live? We can give you a heads up if something shows up near or not too far from you......
I just did a quick search on Trader on Line using 96-98 Dodge 2500 any transmission, any mileage, diesel fuel, and found 197 hits for $ 12,000 or less with 300 miles of my zip code 32935. Check it out. Try around your zip. Dave

Dont rush into it if you have something thats working right now or will for a while take your time and find out everything you want on the truck get your mind made up and then go.I'm helping a friend shop for a truck now and hes changed his mind about twenty millions times:doah:
go on autotrader.com to keep an eye out for trucks. you can do an 'advanced search' and search only ex. cab short bed, stick shift etc
