Wheel/Tire Combo Recomendations for Heavy Duty Hauling and some moderate off-roading.

    To everyone,
    What tire / wheel combination (and any necessary lift) do you recommend I put on my GMC 3500 Dually? I have a 25 foot boat, and plan to get a 5th wheel camper.

    I believe u have 16 inch wheels.....so i would put BFGOODRICH TA allterrain 265/75/16 load range E or NITTO TERRA GRAPPLERS 265/75/16 load range E. Now u can put 285/75/16 size tire but need to crank up the torrsion bars and possible wheel spacers for the back. Check with discount tire in your area and if get the run around shout back at me i have a family friend thats a gm for discount here in the houston area....I am about ready to do the same thing to my 4x4 dodge dually just waiting for the factory tires to wear out, but so far these GENERALS have been good???????

    Yeah, my GMC 3500 came with General Ameritrac LT215/85R16’s that tracked through the mud ok, but they look like bicycle tires on this rig. I'll probably keep them on for the first 20,000 miles or so. Can I put those BFGoodrich or Nitto Terra Grappler 265 or 285 tires on my stock rims? I like the BFGoodrich P215/60R15 Touring T/A’s that are on my 1981 GMC Caballero’s stock rims, great tires for that car/truck, but that’s for another forum.

    I read some strong testimonials at the Rickson truck wheel website about how their 19.5 inch wheels provided a smoother ride and improved performance. Does anyone agree with their view, or was I just reading some clever advertising?

    Yes the BFG and NITTOS will fit on stock rims. The RICKSON wheels are nice but very very limited for tire selection. I would keep the stock wheels and put allterrain tires on i think it looks better and performs better. My thoughts....

    here is my set up with 265/75/16 BFG All-terrains with 1 1/2"spacer from http://www.wheeladapter.com/ . not to many folks load there truck as heavy as I do. these tire have about 10k on them with a few power brakes & are just starting to show some wear. I am guessing about 40k miles out of them.

    Man, your thoughts are right about those BFG's! Don't 9 Second's rig look awesome and a sound functioning rig too.

    Vince i hope we answered your future setup for your rig....9 seconds did right so when u get yours done send some pics, i will do the same hopefully this summer unless i get lucky on a scratch off!!!!

    Thanks again George, will do (about posting pics). Yeah it'll be late summer before I can rustle up some new rubber for my truck.

    yes I did only 4 turns on them, but when it comes time for the next alignment I am going to turn them down 1 turn because the rear sets lower than the front when I am about 28k lbs.

    I have a question about yer post that I've been dying to ask about and now seems to be a perfect chance. A little off the main topic so my appologies.
    Will running spacers in between your duallys reduce the amount of load capacity due to the widening of the tire footprint? It would seem to me the spacers would put additional stress on wheel hubs/lugs. I have 265/70R17 Pro Comp AT's on my truck and the slightly wider tires have me concerned with the smaller than stock space between the tires. I've seen/heard people running spacers but have been hesitant. Does anyone have an explanation to either justify or disclaim my worries. Obviously 9 Second is still loading his rig heavy and hadn't had any problems yet but what about later as his heavy miles add up? I don't want to cause my bank account any unwanted withdrawels just to look cooler with bigger meats. :confused:
    Please pipe in if you have something...

    If have been running 2' spacers on the rear of my truck for the past 30k miles with very heavy loads and no failure to date. I have them on to clear 315/70/17 bfgs. I used the same website as the one posted before.

    I have also been running spacers on my 06 Dodge dually for about 12,000 miles now. I also run the 315/70/17's and have had zero problems. If fact, it has been quite the oppisite. I have found that my rig is now a lot more stable than it was before due to it being wider. Trailers no longer can sway the rear of the truck around in the wind like they would before (not that it was bad before). It looks like I may get about 40,000 to 50,000 miles out of the front set. I don't rotate my tires, I'll just replace the front ones. The rears I don't even know how much longer they will last than the fronts. They show almost no signs of wear.
