Do you think that Daimler Chrysler and GM will merge? What will this do for the truck industry? No more Big 3, more like the Big 2! Here is a link involving the Merger: http://www.cnbc.com/id/17186918/for/cnbc/
That would be very interesting to todays car market. What do you thing the cummins with the allison behind it? Maybe a version of a chevy power wagon. These are my two favorite trucks makers so it would make my next truck puchase alot easier LOL. Thanks
Aparently, they were mainly merging because Chrysler doesnt have a large SUV like the Suburban. So if they do Merge, Chrysler will be making a reproduction of the Suburban of something but I can see them doing something in the truck market to. I would really like to see what they develope!
I have been saying for years that Dodge needs a suv (like the burb or the excursion) and give it a diesel since no-one else offers it anymore. That would be awesome. I think dodge would be better off staying away from the Suburban though. Since the new one came out it has lost alot of respect in the towing dept.
#1) I can't see a company that is in DEEP financial trouble buying another one that is in trouble. #2) the article is GM buying Daimler, & it was also stated that they would cut production of employees & over lapping models. so how do any of you get where they plan on building a huge gas guzzling SUV? did I miss another page of it?
NEW YORK/DETROIT (Feb. 16) - General Motors Corp. is in preliminary talks to buy Chrysler, a source familiar with the situation said on Friday. More Coverage: Perfect Together? Chrysler Cutting 13,000 Jobs GM, Chrysler SUV Tie-Up? Stock Screener: Autos Talk About It: Post Thoughts · Latest Car Reviews · Autoblog The talks were first reported by the trade journal Automotive News. GM and Chrysler parent DaimlerChrysler AG declined to comment on the report. Shares of DaimlerChrysler rose in reaction to the report. GM shares slipped at first but then moved higher. Automotive News, citing unnamed sources in Germany and the United States, said the companies were engaged in high-level talks about GM buying Chrysler Group in its entirety. The source who spoke to Reuters, however, said it was questionable whether GM would want Chrysler's finance business, having recently sold its own finance arm. Speculation surrounding a possible sale or spinoff of Chrysler has built since DaimlerChrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche said earlier this week that all options were open for its struggling North American unit. DaimlerChrysler shares were up 3.5 percent to $72.72 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange. GM shares were up 19 cents at $36.63. Analysts have questioned whether GM would benefit from a merger with Chrysler, since both automakers are struggling with excess production capacity, sliding sales and a heavy exposure to trucks and sport utility vehicles. David Feinman, a fund manager who specializes in distressed debt with Havens Advisors, said he doubted that GM would complete a deal to buy Chrysler. Feinman, who does not own GM debt, said both GM and Chrysler have too many overlapping models, and any merger would have to result in even deeper cuts to jobs and output. "If they do merge, there would have to be massive streamlining and there would be hundreds of thousands of more jobs loss," he said. He added, "The only one to benefit would be Daimler because they would get rid of Chrysler."
GGoose If Chrysler and GMC merge we will still have the big three. Toyota is coming on strong and will have a diesel soon let alone its the only truck made in the US of A...
I did not read that they would build a real suv. I was simply saying that someone needs to build a real suv that could actually tow like they used to.
i dont see it happening anytiem real soon but wouldnt be suprised if soemthign happens within the next 05-15 years or so the way the japs have taken over the car market i know its been stressin the big 3 for a while now, while im not really worried because all of them have strong truck sales, i wouldnt be suprised if we eventually see em doing soemthin with there car lineups that may have to do with team work between the 3.
Apperantly both GM and Magna wanted Chrysler for free and aren't getting it. Personally I haven't even heard noise that Chrysler was even in trouble (maybe I just missed it) but I sure heard lots about GM and Ford. I was most curious about what parts were offered up, like does it include Freightliner or Dietroit Diesel. Can't see either going to GM when they gave up their large truck division. The rumors all seem to have died now but if truth be known, Diamler and Chrysler don't seem to have leveraged their merger much. I'd like to hear from insiders any facts to the contrary (apart from the Crossfire).
Built in USA If you buy a Chevy dually diesel, you have a truck built here. The duramax is built in Moraine, Ohio, and Canada only builds the non duallys. I think the truck is built in Ohio too. Being a Buckeye for most my life, makes me proud to own one myself.....Kong waytogo
I was shocked when I saw "made in mexico" on the door sticker of my 3500 CTD. I think all the 3/4 and 1ton trucks are built in Mexico and maybe the 1500s too.
